Here's the trigger to overturn roe. Really surprised they're doing this while the supreme Court still has a pro-choice majority.

I'm not sure that Kasich will sign this, but we'll see.  I also always envisioned the case that will overturn Roe to be a ban from conception.

I highly doubt the future 4 Liberal + Kennedy SCOTUS setup would uphold this.

Most people don't even know if they're pregnant at six weeks! Jeez.

20 weeks is reasonable, IMO, and I imagine SCOTUS would uphold it

Honestly, with this sort of timing, probably. If I was Kasich I would veto this for strategic reasons.

This is ludicrous. Most women don't even know they're pregnant at 6 weeks, so this would deny the majority of potential abortion seekers their constitutional rights. Besides, isn't defining it as the first measurable heartbeat a rather arbitrary limit?

It is. It's called sex-selective abortion.

I'm sure women will come out of their kitchens to vote for Kasich in 2018!

My position on abortion would be the same if men got pregnant instead of women.

If men got pregnant instead of women, they'd be women and women would be men.

Stupid and unnecessary and it will be shot down quickly enough.

Yep.  The vast majority of people are sympathetic to limiting late-term abortions with the well-being of the fetus being their motivating factor ... but this is a ridiculous bill.  Even your standard Republican who opposes Roe v. Wade seems to be fine with an exception for rape, incest or AT LEAST life of the mother.

If men got pregnant instead of women, they'd be women and women would be men.
If men got pregant, abortion would be guaranteed until 18 years of age.

The article does not explicitly say whether a life exception is included or not. Obviously a life exception is a precondition to getting my support for this (As I said, I would veto this for strategic reasons regardless).

this is the opposite of the usual "late-term"-abortion-talking-point.

if Roe is going to be over-turned.....there will be a backlash.

This is ridiculous. I am pro-choice throughout the first trimester with exceptions beyond that for endangerment, rape, and incest, and I believe I rest well within the median.

Up until the end of the first trimester, the central nervous system is barely forming, and the fetus is barely past the embryonic stage. However, banning abortion before most women are even aware of it is absolutely absurd, and it works as an effective ban à la Jim Crow.

Agreed, but there is another part of me that want's the Supreme Court to rule that this crap is unconstitutional nonsense, kind of like they did recently with the Texas restrictions in Whole Woman's Health. Kennedy seems to have moved to the left when it has come to abortion, so that's nice.

Abortion should be safe, legal, and encouraged, if not mandatory for immature teenage girls who are driving up our poverty rate.
