Yay, I've never done one of these before. Smiley

Jbrase is hereby nominated to the Supreme Court of Atlasia as Associate Justice and Southern Justice, filling the seat vacated by Vice President North Carolina Yankee, finalized by confirmation or denial by the Southern Chamber of Delegates.

I now open a period of questioning for the nominee.

First off congrats to Jbrase for being nominated. I would like to take the time to ask a few questions for the prospective Supreme Court Justice, before deciding on how to vote on his confirmation. Please note ideology will play no role in my decision on whether to confirm the nominee.
______________
1 What legal experience to do you have in Atlasia or in RL do you have, and how would you apply it to the position of Supreme Court Justice?

2. What is your main  leagal philosophy?

3. How do you define reasonable doubt and how would you apply this to Crimminal trials?

4. Can you please complete the following two case studies, stating the main issues in the cases,  your decision in the cases, and the reason you reached this decision. Please use Atlas law in your case studies.

  Case 1 S. Steel v Southern Region

I have argued several cases before the SC as an individual and on behalf of the region. In RL all I can brag is successfully getting out of a parking ticket.

I believe that one generation of people should not be held slave to the beliefs of the the previous, but at the same time people have the means to enact change in the law via elections and conventions. Therefor knowing that people have the means to change bad law, the word of the law must be upheld. If the federal government passes a law that violates the bounds set for it by the constitution that law must be struck, same for the regions. I am a libertarian person in most aspects but I understand that even if I personally disagree with an overbearing law that seems needless and wasteful, if it is within the bounds set by the constitution, I cannot rule against it.

I believe that while the region is within its rights to regulate how ID's work, the region would be overstepping it's bounds by regulating who goes in what washroom. I personally believe that a person is free to believe what ever they want about themselves and live accordingly so long as it doesn't harm others, but if the state wants to keep id's simple and based on your chromosomes they are not overstepping.

Case 2 M. Fox v Fremont

I believe in freedom of association and that one cannot be denied the right to gather with other as part of a union while at the same time no person can be forced against their will to join one. I do not approve of right to work laws for instance because if an employer and a union come to an agreement on their own that a job requirement is joining a union that is between them. If an employer wishes to only hire non-union people, that is his prerogative. However Fremont has no right to force employees into a union against their will as basis for employment.

What kind of a stupid question is this?

And what does it have to do with anyone's qualifications to be a Justice?

Fine, but if it is not relevant to the matter at hand, then why ask it?

But, I nonetheless commend you for using your imagination.

I would like to thank the nominee for taking tine to answer my questions. I am satisfied with his answers and will be voting Aye on his confirmation.

With no debate in 24 hours I motion for a final vote on the confirmation.

I third the motion (#WeNeedFive Wink). Also apologies for not finding time to write questions of my own, it's been a busy weekend in Atlasia and in real life.

So with the majority of us motioning for a final vote, I now call one (a final vote, that is) for 48 hours on the confirmation of Jbrase as Southern Supreme Court Justice.

Aye

Looking at both his distinguished history in the game and his answers to these questions, voting for Jbrase's confirmation seems like a no-brainer.

With 3 votes in favor and two members for whatever reason not voting, Jbrase has been confirmed for the role of Southern Supreme Court Justice.
