Died March 18, aged 54.

Hans-Dietrich Genscher
Foreign minister (1974-1992), interior minister (1969-1974), and FDP chairman (1974-1985).
Died March 31, aged 89.

Walter Scheel
President of West Germany (1974-1979), foreign minister (1969-1974), minister for economic cooperation (1961-1966), and FDP chairman (1968-1974). Last surviving Adenauer cabinet member.
Died August 24, aged 97.

Hildegard Hamm-Brücher
Minister of state at the foreign office under Genscher (1976-1982) and FDP presidential candidate (1994). Left the FDP in 2002 in protest over the Antisemitism allegations against Jürgen Möllemann.
Died December 7, aged 95.
