I do believe Russia was involved in the Wikileaks leaks that hurt Clinton and given the closeness of the election in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania it is possible that without that interference Clinton may have won or done better. This included forcing the resignation of DWS and increasing divisions in the Democratic Party. I don't think it did swing the election but it was unhelpful. However with the actual vote numbers themselves Trump won that legitimately. Trump did not win because the Russians hacked it, he won because he got more votes than Clinton in enough states that added up to over 270 electoral votes.

Now be fair. the story was published in the Washington Post. WaPo does have something of a reputation for publishing sensationalist rubbish designed to attack Trump and the Republicans e.g.

A recent dubious report about Russian propaganda in the media that itself turned out to be based on unsubstantiated propaganda

Their lies about the Michelle Fields/Cory Lewandowski incident.

added to that you have their repetition of accusations that Trump was causing violence at his rallies when project Veritas videos and other documents later showed it was paid Democratic operatives causing the violence.

Then you have the breathless and unquestioning reporting of the the women who claimed to victims of assault by Trump even though many of their accounts were implausible and dubious.

Then you have their non stop comment articles attacking Trump, including one article that actually argued that not only their comment but also their news coverage should be biased against Trump.

Basically The Washington Post have zero credibility when it comes to stories about Trump.

Well, one difference between this and Watergate is that in Watergate the perpetrators were within reach of US law enforcement.  Not sure how the US would ever manage to prosecute the Russian hackers in question here.

They say it will show up in the report that Obama ordered about the election before he leaves office, so even if this dies down for a bit, it's gonna come back. This seems fairly substantive, if they can prove that Russia also hacked the RNC but did not release any information. I doubt anything will be done about it under the unified R government though.

So much for the cold war being over though...looks like Russia might have gotten the last laugh after all. Damn.
