By 2020 Russia has become a superpower once again. It's economy is exploding. It is the center of a new power called the Eurasian Union which includes many former SSRs + NKorea and has annexed parts of all the baltic states.
The United States under President Trump is an ally of the Russians. The 2018 midterms saw lots of bizarre results and overall GOP gains. Bernie Sanders died in 2019 after visiting a Russian Orthodox Church. The 2020 Democratic primaries are Cory Booker vs. Kanye West, but after losing NH to West a massive amount of documents are revealed by Julian Assange's WikiLeaks, detailing Booker's evil plan to build a death ray on the lunar surface as president. West wins the primaries and is personally congratulated by Russian President Putin, who also appears as a respected special guest at the first televised debate.
