Another Kurz-poll from a pollster I mailed ... Smiley

ATV Austria Trend poll (n=700, Feb. 13-21)Sad

Chancellor vote:

Important to note that Norbert Hofer (and not party leader Strache) was polled as FPÖ-frontrunner as well as Irmgard Griss for NEOS.

Also:

"What is your opinion about a SPÖ-Green-NEOS coalition ?"

44% support/like the idea
51% oppose/don't like the idea

Under-29 year olds support it with 54%, 30-50 year olds with 50% and old voters above 50 years only with 35% ...

Also:

The 700 voters polled were asked to rate themselves on the political left-right spectrum, which is 100 points to the left and 100 points to the right. The average Austrian rated itself 2 points to the left.

Then they were asked to rate the current party leaders and hypothetical frontrunners on the political spectrum:

I have a big family with many FPÖ-voters and they are very fond of Kurz ...

Obviously, Kurz first has to sail through an election campaign before becoming an Austrian Justin Trudeau of the center-right ... Tongue

New Upper Austria poll by Spectra (n=800) for the OÖN:

38-42% ÖVP (2015 election: 36.4%)
33-37% FPÖ (30.4%)
14-16% SPÖ (18.4%)
10-13% Greens (10.3%)
    0-2% NEOS (3.5%)

http://www.nachrichten.at/nachrichten/thema/OOEN-Politik-Barometer-OEVP-wieder-klar-vorne;art180211,2495074

The current coalition is ÖVP-FPÖ. It seems both parties are benefitting from the coalition, as the mood is really good in Upper Austria and politicians are well liked.

Yepp.

The outgoing long-time ÖVP-Governor has a 82-9 approval rating according to the poll and even the new one which will take office in April already has a 63-4 approval rating as cabinet member.

Also, the 2 main FPÖ coalition members are liked too by the state's voters, having 43-26 and 49-35 approvals.

Foreign and Integration Minister Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) wants to ban dictator Erdogan from campaigning in Austria ahead of the Turkish referendum in April:

http://derstandard.at/2000053228793/Kurz-gegen-Wahlkampfauftritt-Erdogans-in-Oesterreich

There are some 350.000 people with Turkish origin in Austria, many of them are able to vote in the referendum designed to give Erdogan dictatorial powers.

Erdogan already campaigned in Vienna in 2014 ahead of the Presidential elections, in front of 14.000 supporters - which drew heavy criticism from all parties back then.

It also led to the famous picture of Kurz meeting with Erdogan back then (see link), in which he virtually told Erdogan to go f**k himself.

Just found out that FPÖ chief H.C. Strache stated yesterday, if Mister Trump wants to reduce the NATO and its budget, the right european answer would be to re-direct the funds into our own EUROPEAN ARMY.
http://derstandard.at/2000053241970/OeVP-begruesst-Straches-Kurswechsel-zu-einer-EU-Armee

my mind is blown.

ofc this is classical anti-transatlantical spin and blah but.....still, a totaly 180° change, in one of the most EU-critical countries on the continent....YUGE.

The Greens (especially Peter Pilz, who recently exposed Erdogan's spy- and intimidation network in Austria and other EU countries) are now also in favour of banning Erdogan from campaigning in Austria, calling him a "undesirable person" who "can open a kebab-stand in Vienna if he wants" but "who must be banned from agitating people in Austria for his referendum".

https://kurier.at/politik/inland/pilz-wahlkampfauftritt-erdogans-unterbinden/248.950.316

Nice to see the Greens taking a stand against this Islamo-Fascist a**hole.

Austria will sue Airbus for the corruption surrounding the Eurofighter purchase during the ÖVP-FPÖ (BZÖ) government between 2000-2006:

http://www.dw.com/en/austria-sues-airbus-over-alleged-eurofighter-corruption/a-37579081

Austria hopes to get around 1.1 Bio. € from Airbus, if they are found guilty.

Even FPÖ and ÖVP are in favour of suing Airbus, with both saying that "today's FPÖ and ÖVP are not the ones a decade ago ..."

After bipartisan opposition talks between FPÖ and Greens (rare, but yes, they took place today) both parties decided to set up a new parliamentary "Eurofighter" investigation committee/inquiry - which will look into the shady dealings of the fighter purchase.

The opposition can set up such an investigation committee in parliament with 25% of seats (so that's why Greens and FPÖ worked together today to initiate it and set the major topics of investigation).

This week, the National Security Council (with members of all parties) was presented with new facts from a special prosecutor, who (for years) was looking into these dealings (incl. corruption, malicious deception of Austria by Airbus and overpriced replacement parts/maintenance costs).

Meanwhile, the Austrian Defense Ministry even hired a prominent US law firm to charge Airbus even in the US market if necessary (The US is very tough on corruption, so Austria is likely pressuring Airbus into taking this thing seriously).

SPÖ & ÖVP, who initiated the previous parliamentary "Eurofighter" investigation committee, said they will fully participate in the new one as well because of the "new facts that came to light". Which is ironic, because both parties had major roles in the purchase and the bad follow-up deals about maintenance ... Tongue

But like the FPÖ, who took on the idea of a new Eurofighter PIC right away, it's the better solution for SPÖ and ÖVP: They know that voters want transparency in politics, so not pulling on the same chord would be futile for their election chances next year (after all, the committee will last about 1 year and only end with a report next summer - a few months before the next elections).

True.

But it would be great if we are finally getting our money back that was dumped into these useless fighter jets ... Wink

defending your air space would be especially important if you are not part of the nato.

Why does a neutral country even need fighter jets?

"Defense" of our air space, theoretically.

But in real life, this is not needed anymore these days because we are surrounded by friendly neighbours. Switzerland could even be paid a small sum each year, so they can not only defend their airspace but ours as well.

On the other hand there's the possibility of a hijacked plane that needs to be shot down. So, a couple fighter jets could always be needed ...

I already have a fitting April poll as well:

"Should Erdogan or his cabinet members be allowed to campaign in Austria ahead of the Turkish referendum ?"
