How would people react? I'm not saying this is likely. We're talking about a 0.000001% chance at most, but it's an interesting hypothetical for me. I can imagine many folks proving that consistency is completely beyond them. While this would technically be completely legal, and the results would be "legitimate", I can imagine several things:

-Many Clinton supporters would say "we won, you lost, stop being sore losers!"
-The overwhelming majority of Trump supporters would refuse to accept the results and protest, calling the vote "unfair" and saying "the people wanted Trump!"
-The electoral college apologists would suddenly decide that they hate the electoral college as it is, and that it's an outdated system that needs to be updated (no more faithless electors)

In short, lots of 180s.

I would not be pretty. Moving to Canada wouldn't be good enough. I'd have to move to the moon.

IF it happened it'd be war because there is no legit reason for the electors not to vote for Trump.

I doubt Clinton would live to Inauguration Day, honestly.

Congress would reject the electoral votes of the traitors and then elect Trump and Pence.

Keep the Electoral College.  Republicans can fare better in the EC than in the PV, thanks to California.

Only make it mandated by law that the Electors must vote for the choice of the voters of their state, or in the case of DC their District.

I believe this amendment would pass easily.

What do you mean by "resurfacing?" They have continued to be a part of Trump's rallies.

IF it happened it'd be war because there is no legit reason for the electors not to vote for Trump.

Legit reason #1: It is their duty, and main reason for being, to deny the presidency to a would-be dictator.

Legit reason #2: Russia and James Comey elected Trump; not the American people.

The Republicans in Congress would just vote to throw out enough states to get Clinton below a majority (It can be done, Democrats tried to throw out FL in 2000 and OH in 2004), giving the election to the house, and vote in Trump.

Yes, in this extremely unlikely scenario, this would be the result, I'm quite sure.  But the country would be in total turmoil with either a Clinton victory or with Trump winning this way.

Yes. Republicans would get so pissed there would be no way for the House not to elect Trump.

this would be preferable to hillary, i guess. but i don't believe a split second it could happen.

"best case" scenario: trump gets elected but loses a record number of electors and is handed an even weaker mandate.

You won because Russia hacked our election.

You lost by nearly 3 million votes.

But anyway, the two reasons I listed are valid and I challenge you to prove otherwise.

As far as I'm concerned, folks have a right to be as bitter as they want to be.

If this happened, the folks who are now whining will be cheering and vice versa.

Trump supporters would lose it big time and it would be quite entertaining to see their reaction. And considering that most of the country rejected Trump, his supporters would be quite a minority. With all this craziness that has come up, the electoral college would be justified in denying Trump the presidency.

During the course of the campaign, I launched many harsh denunciations of both Trump and Clinton.

Nearer to the end of the campaign though, I returned home.

Lost the election?

Hardly.

Who controls the Presidency?
Who controls the Vice Presidency?
Who controls the U.S. Senate?
Who controls the U.S. House of Representatives?
Who controls appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court, appointments which will set the course of the court for a generation?
