Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

This isn't a meaningful classification system.

FWIW, I got my BA at what most people would consider Generic University (University of Massachusetts Amherst, although its reputation worldwide is apparently much higher than it is in the United States, possibly because it has the word "Massachusetts" in its name) but in a field (Japanese) that it's stronger than average in. I'm now at Boston University, which is probably in the second category (especially in my current field, theology, although I've been somewhat disappointed in aspects of the way I've been taught here, and liked life at UMass way better overall).

I should note that I'm actually prouder of and play up my UMass connection more than my BU connection, partially because UMass is more (for lack of better words) populist and tatterdemalion. They're trying to change that image by putting in a ton of this new-built plate-glass architecture crapola that costs a fortune to heat in the winter. It's horrible and indicative of extreme vapidity on the part of the administration. Most of the preexisting campus is either Georgian Revival or Brutalist, both styles that I dislike individually but which actually age quite well together.
