Yes and return D.C. to Maryland, while turning the capitol into a museum.

I think Kansas City (both the Kansas and Missouri parts) might be a better location for a new capital if you do want to move to the center of the country, and yet still be in a populated area with a major city.

Sure, I'd love to have it in a red state. The only potential problem is it could ruin a great state with a bunch of yuppies moving in.

New York would be the best capital.

No, I'm just fine with DC.

A) DC is a great location

B) The Jeffersonian principle of putting capitals in the center rather than the population center is an awful practice, IMO

C) I see no problem with the current setup

Therefore, no

Don't return DC to Maryland. Make it a state like the people there want.

No, the capital doesn't need to be in the center.

Too much history in DC now.

But if it ever has to move, and not to NYC or Boston or Philadelphia but somewhere far out west, then it should be a new city built into the Rocky Mountains probably in Colorado. For defense/security reasons.

Denver would be a great capital. To hell with the East Coast.

DC was chosen at the time because it was the mean center of the population.  I feel having the capital on the East Coast (3 time zones away from the largest state in the country) leads to the West coast, which is the most progressive part of the country, being ignored.  So yes I do think the capital should be moved closer to the mean center of population (which currently is near Springfield, MO).

CA and TX are the two biggest states and IL is the fourth most important. Denver would be "in between" LA, Houston and Chicago.

The geographic center of the US is actually closer to Lebanon, Kansas. If we want to move it to the mean center of population, it would be in southern Missouri. The largest city in that area, though, is Springfield, and the mean center of population will still move over time. DC is a great capital.

I wouldn't object to that, I think it should be moved closer to the centre of the country.

Kansas City might be better since its bigger, but Omaha and Lincoln are great too. Plus I think people are unaware of how much larger Omaha has gotten in the past 20 years. St. Louis could used too, its had a very rough time since the 50's.

Springfield, MO wouldn't be good, that part of MO is basically West Virginia. Also Wichita is an even worse choice, its owned lock, stock and barrel by the Koch Brothers. Des Moines would be good though.

The mean population center is in southern MO, but that's not close to the median population center of the US. The median population center is the point where half the population is east/west and north/south of that point. In 2010 it was located in SW IN in Pike county just north of Evansville. An analysis published in the Atlantic with 2013 data broke it down by age and gender to show how varied the median points are.
