Wouldn't this royally screw over the hundreds of thousands of workers in DC who have no connection to politics, but make a living from the fact that their city is the seat of government?

Have been at college in DC, I can tell you a sizable chunk of the service sector revolves around the massive flow of tourists, bureaucrats, visitors and officials that live in the city and visit it. If the capitol were to suddenly be moved, the livelihoods of barbers, restaurant owners, janitors, teachers, cleaners and many others would be gone.

The idea of creating a capitol in "Real America" only works if you think that D.C. is a sort of tent city for government, or a citadel for bureaucrats, but it isn't.

I'd be down with this idea.

The capital should be moved to Niagara Falls after we unite with Canada. Until then, we can keep it in DC.

I focused on Nebraska because Ben Sasse is the only one talking about this seriously. Otherwise i'm fine with Missouri too, although it's even more unlikely.

The people of Niagara Falls have suffered enough from deindustrialization and me moving in next door. Have some sympathy.

No, but if it must be moved, put the Capitol in view of the St. Louis Arch.

The most likely place the capital would be removed to right now is in fact Palm Beach, Florida.

A) DC is a great location

B) The Jeffersonian principle of putting capitals in the center rather than the population center is an awful practice, IMO

C) I see no problem with the current setup

Therefore, no

Nah just leave it were it is. It would just create more unnecessary problems.
