What of Johnny had won the nomination chose Nikki Haley for the VP slot? I think he would have won against Hillary. In both the popular vote and electoral college.

Governor John Kasich (R-OH)/Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC): 319 EV. (50.17%)
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D-NY)/Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA): 219 EV. (47.04%)

Kasich did not have exact same appeal than the Trumpster in the Rust Belt. I think the only state he would have won is WI (along with OH and IA), while keeping it pretty close in MI (<1% margin) and PA (~1% margin). Nevertheless, with Hillary’s weak performance I think Kasich/Haley would have won by picking up NH, CO and ME-at-large in addition to the states the Trumpster won. The PV would have been about equal, with a small lead for the GOP ticket.

✓ Governor John Kasich (R-OH)/Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC): 285 EVs.; 49.2%
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D-NY)/Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA): 253 EVs.; 48.8%

Clinton/Kaine: 308 EV, 49% PV
Kasich/Haley: 230 EV, 45% PV

Clinton actually runs a good campaign that focuses on the issues instead of "look at all the mean things he said", and in the debates, she goes in for the kill rather than wait for her opponent to soil himself.

Kasich would probably have a lot of power in the rust belt states, Florida, North Carolina, Maine, and New Hampshire. Kasich would barely take Virginia and Clinton would barely take Pennsylvania. Michigan, Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico are a stretch, though.
