This is something that I lobbied for in the past; and something that I feel very passionately about.

The amendment that I offered doesn't dramatically change anything. but extents the growth period of the minimum wage to reach $11.10 by 2020. Likewise it also keeps it place the tax credit to help support small businesses.

It also removes the tipped rate of the minimum wage, as some states have a tipped minimum wage that is as low as $3.40. Forcing workers to rely on tips to top up their income isn't at all stable, or sustainable for workers trying to work out a budget, or trying to feed their kids. This overall is a piece of legislation that will make a massive difference to about 35 million people's lives, and help lift them out of poverty wages

I am ambivalent about the overall increase, but I do like the idea of eliminating the tipped rate.

I agree with PiT. I'm not a fan of raising the federal minimum wage, although I did sign this original bill as a good compromise. And tipping is an insane practice derived from prohibition-era bribery that just makes things annoying and uncomfortable for everyone.

Looks good to me.  Getting rid of the tipped rate is a great idea, not just because it's terrible but because there's a huge disparity between credit card tips and cash tips too.
