Putting politics/world events aside, which years were the best and worst for you?

2012 was easily the best for me. Graduated from college, moved to Taiwan, and just had lots of great memories, with only a few low points.

The worst year overall is a tougher call. 2010 was a pretty bad one, but 2016 had a far worse trajectory, and was a bigger letdown. I'll probably still go with 2010.

Overall:
1. 2012
2. 2015

3. 2011
4. 2013
5. 2014

6. 2016
7. 2010

Hard call between 2010 when I was a Junior/Senior in High School and only Spanish and Math stood in my way, but all these new restaurants downtown opened up for lunch, lots of good movies, went on two backpacking trips, lots of good movies.

And 2014 when I had a girlfriend, got a job after a void year, got my driver's license after two fecking years on a permit [thanx DMV and school calendar], all the dumb^ss core requirements got knocked out, leaving only major classes, really only the politics sucked that year.

But this last year hands-down is the worst.

2012 was the best. Interestingly enough, I also lived in Taiwan for much of that year.
2015 was probably the worst, but it was good in some ways.

2012 was the best, 2013 the worst, though 2013-2015 was one giant nightmare.

2014 was, by far, the worst.  I don't remember which was best, to be honest.

2016 has actually been the best year in recent memory for me. Started off pretty terribly, got significantly better, then got significantly worse, and is ending really well. 2011 or 2012 was probably the worst year of my life. Voted 2011 because I was a suicidal high school freshman who wanted to drop out and die alone somewhere.

Even with politics excluded, 2016 has easily been the worst year of the decade for me. Things seem to be trending up in December, but everything else was just so god-awful that it can't possibly make up all the damage.

As for good years, 2014 was aight.

Best to Worst:
2015 (best year this decade, by far. felt the most alive and productive)
2014 (had a ton of great memories and felt like life was on the right track)
2012 (pretty solid year, things were generally going well)
2013 (started off pretty solid but finished off bad but, on balance, pretty good)

2010 (wasn't good, wasn't bad. a comfortable neutral)
2016 (started off decent but got pretty difficult and painful pretty fast, including extreme depression; despite that i had some successes that balance it out)

2011 (bad year on balance, felt like i couldn't do anything right)

Blue = Positive
Green = Neutral
Red = Negative

2013 was the most recent year when I was still a positive person, so that by default. 2015 for worse by far, I was sort of a wreck. Also, I joined this forum.

I can't really remember 2010-2012, 2013 is a huge blur, 2014 as well.

2015 had a mostly good first half with a majorish hiccup near the end but a mixed(sometimes quite bad) second half, with the ending getting better.

2016 was a very interesting year for me. This year had some very bad times, but I've grown and matured through it in a way I hadn't before. This year was an incredible year in its magnitude for me. It gets both best and worst for me, because I can't look back on the years before it and wished I was still as immature as I was.

2010 - Started off okay, started going to sht when my grandfather died in the fall.  Everything kinda went downhill from there.

2011 - Mostly okay.

2012 - Started off as sht with my dad ending up in the hospital during New Years, but things started to get a lot better for me that year while he was recovering.  It was also the first time in years I'd seen my parents genuinely happy with each other.  Strangely, this was probably one of the nicer times of my life and I'd honestly give anything to go back.

2013 - Final semester of my last year in high school.  Dad died right before I graduated.  Naturally, everything was on a downward spiral from there.  But I did get more in touch with my spirituality around this time and started attending church some months after that horrible day, partly to help cope.

2014 - Basically awful.  Full of legal and financial BS as my mom was trying to recover my dad's assets and sell our oversized house.  I started my first semester of college in the fall, which started out nice but quickly turned to sht in mid-October.  Both my physical and mental health started to really decline this year, as well, as did my mom's.

2015 - Sht.

2016 - Sht.

Overall my best was either 2011 or 2012, worst was 2013.

2010: a lot of good, some sh**t too. Moved in with my mother and things got a lot better automatically - I seemed more focused at school, got closer with friends, etc. But I wasn't very mature emotionally, and was prone to massive lashes out that I kinda regret. Perhaps it didn't help that given this was still techincally middle school people were jerks, and I often hang around a bad crowd. Also I kinda burnt myself out at school after a good first semester....

2011: better year socially; I fought less with friends and also got some new ones. Found school a little tough though (mostly due to lack of effort), which saw me at the end (misguidedly) decide to do my HSC year over two years in order to improve marks, as I was worried about career opportunities if I didn't get into uni (partially because of lack of experience, partially because of the autism). Bonus points for my first overseas trip.

2012: 18th birthday so I could drink etc, and finally gained access to my savings. Also found school less tough for the reasons I said earlier. Probably my best year personally.

2013: showed a lot of promise early on; I had some great social times, went overseas, that kind of thing. Trouble was, I had mentally and emotionally checked out of school at that point, and there were some bad people I fell in with (different to the 2010 people for the most part) and I never felt like I was accepted like I was with my previous schooling social circles. Marks for the HSC were pretty poor for the most part, only really scraping into uni.

2014: first year out of school, and instead of uni I went firstly to a transition to work program offered for free for those eligible, and secondly TAFE (hence me waiting another year at school was kinda pointless). This was good initially, but I was never really mentally challenged at the program and I was too smart for a lot of people there (that said I still maintained friendships with several of them). TAFE was fine for the most part, but I never really developed much relationships there; largely because I never was properly connected to them identity wise (many of them were in vastly different life cycles to me or a different kind of person). Also I fell out of contact with my school friends for large parts of the year. Again not a great year for the most part.

2015: second year of the program/TAFE. However I enjoyed these less than 2014 for a few reasons. I had to go to a different TAFE because the course I was doing shut down at my old campus, and the big campus in that area was too expensive compared to other ones. The issue is, I was basically the only Australian in my course that year, and had few connections to the people there. The only social chances I had at TAFE was with an old school friend who was doing an apprenticeship there. Found the program rather boring, but I did meet a number of cool people who I got close with and also found a job. Probably the best post-2012 year despite its flaws because of its strengths.

2016: worst year for me personally. Started uni (well techincally a bridging course), which was mostly fine but I didn't get much lasting friendships out of it. My pre-existing friends faded away and the nature of my work largely sucked a lot of time out of things I enjoyed. Plus the worseing geo-political climate scared me too.

So in order:

2012
2011

2010

2015
2014
2013

2016

No one was really bad. Voted 2010, because I was just on a part-time intership until September of that year. I finished college in 2009 but did not find full employment or a study immediately thereafter. On September 1, I begun a job on the learning (with theoretical (school) and practical work), that I finished in 2013 when started a full job as merchant in industry.

The best was 2011 for two reasons: I left home into my own apartment in May of that year. Just the month before, I first met my today's girlfriend.

But 2016 was very good personally as well, when I got a new job at a great company (actually joined the company in September 2015, but switched the department in January).
