Democratic debate. Everybody is invited.

Opening Statements

What will your plan be to prevent climate change?

How will your presidency create policy regarding Wall Street?

Will you be actively pro-choice as president?

Do you believe in amnesty for undocumented citizens in the United States?

How will you respond the to refugee crisis in the Middle East?

(to Jones) In an ad that aired a few weeks ago, you referred to all of your opponents as “corporate whores”. Is this presidential behavior?

Closing Statements

I'm busy with other stuff, so this was written with minimal effort. And sorry about being really late too.

Alright then. I'll label NeverAgain the presumptive winner of the Republican primary so I have less work to do. Unless any of O'Houlihans opponents have objections in this thread.

I'll get the next turn up tomorrow. Harmon won the debate, so Peebleton can stop trying to answer it.

Of course you can. The candidate would have to be running an Independent or third-party campaign though. General Election Mode is starting soon.

Now time for token allocation.

Samuel O'Houlihan - 180 new, 397 total

Emily Peebleton - 141 new, 341 total
Tsumiki Harmon - 141 new, 414 total
Bobby Jones - 60 new, 508 total

Samuel O'Houlihan is now in GE mode and is getting tokens based on his national poll numbers instead of his primary poll numbers. He also gets a 100 token bonus for being the presumptive nominee.

HARMON WINS DEBATE, JONES DISAPPOINTS

The debate a few days ago showed just why Harmon is considered by many to be the frontrunner, despite not having won a single state yet. Her strong performance impressed many pundits and voters, and her lead in the polls is solidifying right before Super Tuesday. Her main opponent, Bobby Jones, also made a few minor gaffes which tarnished an otherwise mediocre performance. Emily Peebleton skipped the debate to fundraise.

However, campaign spokesman Ben Smith urged supporters to be cautious. "The last thing we need is a few thousand voters staying home because they think we have this in the bag." Numerous other pundits point to the lack of campaigning in the Super Tuesday states so far as one piece of evidence that the results may surprise us.

O'HOULIHAN PRESUMPTIVE GOP NOMINEE

So I'm introducing General Election Mode. More on that in a later post.

Name: Frank Zappa

State: California

Age: 75 (on Election Day)

Party: Libertarian

PM: E: +7.84 S: -8.70

Background: A legendary musician, Zappa has made a fortune due to early investments in the online business network Linkedin as well as other tech companies. He has been very politically outspoken on issues such as U.S. involvement abroad and the legalization of marijuana, and is ubiquitous for his libertarian political stances and frank, "straight-shooter" manner. He considered seeking the Presidency in 1988 and 1992 as a Democrat, and in 2012 as a Republican, but ultimately decided against it all three times.

(We're going to imagine that he never got cancer and is still alive today, along with his wife, Gail.)

I'm now introducing GENERAL ELECTION MODE. There are a few major differences from the primaries, the biggest difference is that the delegates are electoral votes and every state is winner take all and they all happen at the same time. GE Mode has five major components that I will list here.

1) Campaigning is mostly the same. There are two differences, the first is important: you will have a vice presidential candidate who can do campaigning as well as you, for one token less (though they will have only half the poll effect). You have to choose your VP candidate sometime before the Conventions. It can be another Atlas poster or some random person you made up or a real politician or celebrity. The other big difference was that now you have time slots. In the primaries, turns are more fluid when it comes to how long they take in-game. In GE Mode, you have 10 time slots for yourself and 10 for your VP to allocate accordingly. Regular campaigning in a state costs one time slot, barnstorming costs 4 time slots. There will be a total of 15 weeks, and thus 300 time slots to be spent between you and your VP. Missing time slots also won't carry over to the next turn, so if you only spend 9 on yourself and 9 on your VP in one week, the extra two are lost.

2) Conventions are the first major event and are mandatory if you want to run in the GE (unless you are running and Independent campaign). They will be 8 time slots in Week 1, and you can stuff as many speakers/speech excerpts/celebrity cameos/etc in it as you want. The more you have, the bigger your convention bounce will be. Conventions have to be held where they actually were in 2016, so Cleveland, OH for the Republicans, Philadelphia, PA for the Democrats, Orlando, FL for the Libertarians, and Houston, TX for the Greens.

3) Debates will be open to any candidate polling at 10% or above the previous week. They will be just like the primary debates, with the same winner/loser system. They will occur in turns 11, 13, and 14 with a VP debate in turn 12.

4) Election night will occur once 15 weeks have happened. I will try my best to make it a big thing, unless the winner is obvious.

5) The new scandal system is complex and not that realistic, but is guaranteed not to destroy campaigns unless the campaigns are bad campaigns. Each campaign will be given a random scandal, ranging from Levels 1 - 4. A Level 1 scandal means there is no scandal, while a level 4 scandal is campaign ending if it were to be released publicly. Luckily, there are only three news organizations who will run the story. At the beginning of the 15 weeks, every campaign will be PMd their scandal and will have to chose a news organization each week to send their lawyers to in order to convince them not to run the story. If they are one of the three, they will cease to be one of the organizations which will release it. If they aren't one of the three, then they will leak a small part of the story, but not enough to hurt your poll numbers. After five weeks, some campaigns will receive info about an opponent's scandal and will have to send their lawyers to certain news organizations hoping to get it published. The news organization, however, will only publish it if they are one of the predisposed three and have not already been contacted by the scandalous campaign.

If you have any questions about these rules I'll be happy to clear things up.

Hello, America!

My name is Frank Zappa, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for President of the United States!

Our country is in some deep, deep doo-doo. There's really no ignoring that. Our education system is broken, our economy has left behind millions of American workers, and our government is tied up in broad obligations thousands of miles away.

If elected, I will implement meaningful education reform to expand technical training and school choice. I will cut taxes, to unleash the power of the free market. I will ensure that we put our country first by removing ourselves from foreign wars and pushing other nations towards military self-sufficiency. I will also legalize recreational marijuana.

Now, some of you may be wondering: why are you running as a Libertarian? Isn't it basically impossible for them to win. To these folks, I say: yes, I can win. I have the resources, the infrastructure, and above all, I have the people on my side. *crowd cheers*

I am running as a Libertarian because, to be Frank *rimshot from backstage* both political parties are hopelessly corrupt. They will not allow candidates to advance without pledging their souls to moneyed donors, or adhering to stupid ideological boxes. I think this is a load of horsesh**t, and I can promise you that I will never keep silent because it might not be "politically correct." The Libertarian party is the largest political structure in the country untouched by this stupidity, and I am proud to call it my political and ideological home.

Goodnight, peace out, and Free America!
