I just listened to David Axelrod's latest podcast interview with Tammy Duckworth. What an interesting and extraordinary woman!

- Raised overseas
- Fluent in Thai and Indonesian
- a PhD and Masters in international affairs
- an Iraq war vet who lost both legs and most of her right arm in battle
- a Purple Heart
- served in the Veteran's Affairs Dept and in the House before her election to the Senate

Does anyone else think she'd make a strong candidate in 2020?

That's an impressive resume.  I would be hesitant to run her in 2020, but 2024 is not unreasonable.  And she'd be a good VP pick in 2020.

A much better pick than Kamala Harris.

Life story aside, she's a meh candidate that doesn't generate much excitement on her own.  The Dems have better options in 2020.

Definitely for vice president, maybe with someone like Heinrich or Bullock at the top of the ticket. She's not exciting enough for President though.

She is an extraordinary character, but I'm a bit worried about her tendency to underperform as a candidate. She failed in her first congressional race in 2006, a Democratic wave, and only sits in the House since 2013. She also underperformed Hillary and owes her election, to some degree, to a luck (facing Kirk of all people).

Let her make a mark in the Senate before going with such speculations.

To be fair, barely underperforming Clinton against a moderate incumbent is impressive. To be unfair, Kirk kind of ruined his own campaign towards the end.

I am really not very hot on Duckworth personally.  But the contrast of Trump running against a warrior-scholar woman who lost two legs in battle is just delicious.

Duckworth ran MILES ahead of Clinton downstate, winning even Gallatin County. Her message on trade resonates with demographics Democrats need to reach out to and her resume is beyond impressive.

Would running a woman who is part Asian be a problem for the great Midwest? Not running a white man would be a slap in the face and trying to force a minority down their throats. /sarc

Clearly the fact that Obama won and Clinton lost shows that we should only run white people from now on.
