I disagree with critics that rogue one is the darkest and saddest star wars movie, that award goes easily to Revenge of the Sith(Order 66, Operation Knightfall(Anakin killing everyone at the temple,  The Jedi Order getting destroyed while the Sith take complete control of the galaxy, the scene in the destroyer where sidious , vader, tarkin look though the window at the death star beginning to be built).

I mean look at these scenes:

Computer, I usually let grammar mistakes slide on the internet, but you REALLY need this one drilled into your head.

thEn = relating to time (e.g., "I was a lot cooler back then" or "We are going to the mall and then to the movies")

thAn = comparing one thing to another (e.g., "Was Rogue One more darker and sadder THAN Revenge of the Sith").

And, I don't know.  Haven't seen it yet. Smiley

Also, "more darker" is not grammatically correct.

absolutely. rogue one's violence showed the hard choices the "good guys" have to make, while ep3's was just edgifying the "bad guys"
(my wording isn't great, but i hope the point comes through)

I crossed it out in the quoted part, didn't feel like piling on TOO much. Tongue

Darker, maybe. Sadder, no; that would imply anyone cared about the characters.

I think 3 is slightly darker simply because it ends on a much darker point where the good guys have lost almost everything and are fleeing into exile. Rogue One, while certainly having its dark moments end on a more hopeful tone and gives 4 more meaning.

Rogue One didn't seem that dark to me. I can obviously understand why some people think it is. But 1) it's a war movie, and people die in wars, 2) it's about a rebel victory.

...Nope, whoever said that is just letting their inner "George Lucas can't write for squat" hatred come out.

Also, The Clone Wars arc where we first see Saw Gerrera did a much better job portraying the costs of war.

I definitely wouldn't say that it was darker, since the "good guys" had some success in the movie. Perhaps the deaths hit a bit harder, since we had more (read: some) attachment to the main characters of that movie than Generic Jedi #435 or 582, but the trajectory of Revenge of the Sith was definitely darker.

Jedi baby corpses were shown on screen in ROTS, so no.

This exactly, plus the idea that anything involving protagonists dying is automatically ~#DARK~ is ridiculous--there's nothing grimdark about dying for a cause.

It wasn't, but I'd say the scene with Vader at the end SURE WAS.

No, it wasn't darker or sadder

Sure, everybody dies in the end in Rogue One. But they died as heroes and their sacrifice ultimately made the world a better place.

Revenge of the Sith is about someone who could have become a great man. Instead, his character flaws and his inner demons compel him to flush everything down the toilet. As a result, his wife dies, he becomes a murderer and ends up horribly disfigured, and a democratic republic is turned into a totalitarian dictatorship.

Of course, both look like a lighthearted romp in the meadows compared to some of them later Clone Wars seasons.

That was a damn good film and way better at what it did versus Revenge of the Sith, which is just really confusing and hard to feel any emotion during the Jedi purge/"I killed kids" scenes.

So you don't like the 4 films Lucas directed... so you refuse to give a chance to the new films not directed by him? Illogical.

I thought it was better than the prequels, TFA, and is comparable to any of the originals.  BRAVO!
