Is anyone planning on protesting Trump's inauguration or interested in doing so? I'm kinda torn on whether it's a good idea or not. My sister asked if I would go with her and I said I would think about it.

On one hand, I'm really concerned about the authoritarian nature of Trump and what he might do regarding civil rights and the environment, not to mention foreign policy and the economy. On the other, will this actually accomplish anything other than possibly getting myself arrested and targeted as an anti-patriot or whatever?

Wasn't sure where to put this, mods feel free to move if this isn't the appropriate place.

Even if I were interested, I'll be too busy at work until the end of tax season (April 17 this year) to take three days off for a pointless gesture.

He won fair and square. Save your money, time, and energy for Feb/March when he starts doing stuff, and then protest. You'll be completely ignored on Inauguration Day.

You can protest against Trump any other day if you want, but not on Inauguration Day.

Because unlike GWB (who stole Florida) ...

Yeah but I still support women's rights. The march is more about that than Trump.

I'll report here on whatever I see at the Inauguration, depending on how close I'm able to get.

I think the CNN's and PMSNBC's of the world will cover protests.......not during any meaningful inauguration moments, but I would expect to see it.

My advice is to just don't do it. And tell anyone you know to stop.

Protesting is a 1st Amendment right, but this is a government process, the swearing in of an elected official, don't interfere.
But the OP won't be able to interfere even if he wanted too. First of all, the ceremony takes place on a platform in front of the capitol. Even if he somehow managed to make it through the throngs of people, he wouldn't be able to get close enough. Even in the front row, Trump will be about two inches tall from that view. Then there are the copious amounts of speakers that will be loudly broadcasting the speech, drowning out any noise, along with the scores and scores of loud, cheering, jubilant supporters. Lastly, the cameras will be on Trump and Trump alone. It just won't be effective.

A really effective strategy would be a march on Washington that would coincide with Trump's 100th day in office. Of course, I support the President-elect, but if I were on the other side, I'd be more inclined to protest later than now. People will be more inclined to listen, and so will the media.

It'd just be a yuge waste of money, and assuming the OP is young like the bulk of Atlas posters, I'd hate to see him lose out on a couple of hundred bucks that would be utterly wasted.
