I say 6(June), shouldn't be and shouldn't be a legal holiday and randomly picked date,
as an alternative because that would be a way of settling the dispute which is
alternatively known as the "war on Christmas"

12 days of Christmas? I don't know but picked 12 as an arbitrary time to vote in this poll.

By randomly picked date, I mean that once it is picked it would be the same every year.

For example, I picked the date 10-17 randomly using the entire year 2016.

What's the status-quo on that? Here both days are legal holidays and I don't mind keeping it that way.

The 26th is a holiday this year because it's on a Monday. It certainly isn't in PA on other days of the week (at least not Wednesday, Thursday or Friday).

Interestingly observing Christmas has been legally banned in the past:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_controversy

I think that that is going to far, but certaintly, the holiday is way overdone and should be
"unhyped" if that's a word. It should be fought on a philosophical level but not outrighted banned. I don't know why we have to make it such a "big" deal. I think that those who push
it for financial gain are no better than Scrooge himself.

Interestingly observing Christmas has been legally banned in the past:
to be fair, until a couple hundred years ago Christmas was basically Mardi Gras in winter time for a lot of people.

Just keep it the way it is.  I see no reason to change it.

It doesn't matter when it is, obviously; that's not the point.  So just keep it when they chose to make it.

Wow. Who cares enough to write that article?

Anyway, I would vote to move to December 21 to align with the winter solstice.

Whenever an individual decides to celebrate it, depending on how literally their interpret their faith. In terms of when the public holiday is, I say just keep it as it is now. I know some Haitian friends who are part of a church that celebrates Christmas in March IIRC (it was three or four years ago when this was discussed in my class). They just view the commonly excepted date of Christmas as a day off to relax and spend time with family and friends.

I always thought that Christmas was just an arbitrary date. I did not know that there was "evidence" that Jesus actually was born on 12/25 (although I am still skeptical of that "evidence" of course).

Even if Jesus was born 12/25 celebrating his  birthday on that date is still not necessary. The actual date is still arbitrary because you can celebrate any birthday on another day, especially a few days early or late or even six months before/after and celebrating Christmas at all is traditional, not Biblical.

Also the calendar change of 1582 adjusted the dates by 1 days, so 12/25 couldn't be the same on both.
12/25 1582 wouldn't have been 365 days after 12/25 1581 and Christmas should have been on the 14th of December. (is that where the 12 days of Christmas comes from)

Because I don't like it. It's too cold. Even with global warming. December is a depressing time of year as it is getting darker and darker. The spring would be better, a time of new birth and hope.
Why should Christmas be so important and Easter not?

People need something to cheer themselves up during the darkness.
