Totally illiterate, or functionally illiterate? The state with the lowest percentage of adults 25+ with a bachelor's degree is WV (17.3%), and it was within a fraction of a percentage point of being Trump's best state. Of the 18 states with the lowest college educational attainment, 17 voted Trump (Nevada was the only exception). The top 15 states, plus DC, all voted Clinton. (KS was the most educated Trump state).

Then again, WY is the #1 state for high school completion (91.8%) and was also Trump's best state.

If you can add the caveat of being illiterate in just English while literate in another language, Clinton for sure.

Um, I'm pretty sure most people who graduated from high school can read regardless of whether they have a bachelors degree.

The inner-city school I went to knowingly graduated students who never learned how to read just to remove them from the system and keep graduation numbers high. Do not be so optimistic.

Trump. He won the high school only vote, while Clinton won the post-graduates. It's pretty clear Trump most likely prevailed. (Also white illiterates probably outnumber minority illiterates still).

Postgrads are a pretty small segment of the population and likely don't sway the sample much.  I haven't seen illiteracy rates comparing minorities and Whites, but I always remember seeing that minority rates were higher (especially in the Deep South, I'd imagine?).  If that is the case, I would say Clinton, as even in some of these "uneducated" states, a lot of the uneducated and poorer voters are probably minorities, no?  Could be off.

True illiterates cannot read anything at all, so they wouldn't have voted. Yes, they could have someone read the ballot for them, but such a person would have tricked or swayed them into simply voting the same way as the reader did, so it would really be a second vote for the reader.

There are very few illiterate voters, but my guess is that they would be overrepresented in minority and immigrant communities.

This is very interesting to me.

Liberals have wanted to enlarge the voting pool with big dumb-dumbs who cannot show up at the right precinct, cannot procure a photo ID given years of time, and cannot even figure out registration deadlines given years of notice....At least that's what they argue in court.

Do you think these people are the sharpest knives in the drawer? Lol..

States Trump won: West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama.

States Clinton won: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington.

I can safely say I have never met someone quite as dumb and illogical as you ever. Remember all those elections when the GOP won the rich vote?

States Democrats won: New York, New Jersey, California

I can say with 90% certainty that the answer is Hillary Clinton.

Illiterates don't vote. Functional illiterates vote, but in a small number.

Overall, a wash, maybe Trump wins. Very few of these people are actually going to care about politics, let alone vote.

Wait, are some people here seriously suggesting that a lack of college education equals illiteracy? WTF?

States Trump won: West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama.

States Clinton won: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington.

States with high % of blacks: MS, LA, GA

therefore Trump won black voters.

Doesn't matter. The demographic you're talkin' about couldn't read the name of who they were voting for...
