Dark Red- Trended Democratic in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016
Red- Trended Democratic in 3 of those elections
Green- Trended Democratic twice and Republican twice
Blue- Trended Republican in 3 of those elections
Dark Blue- Trended Republican in all four elections

Idaho and Alaska really stand out on the Democratic side, although Alaska has been more visible as inching more Democratic, but Idaho surprises a bit more...

PA, NY, CT, and NH stand out on the Republican side.

The reddest states are those with the highest levels of education. The bluest are those with the least. And the green states are in the middle.

Personally, I do not think this bodes well for the Dems in 2020. The less-educated white voters will continue to vote for Trump in 2020, especially with him as the incumbent. Things will be different by 2024 though. (Perhaps a bit less polarized for once?)

Fascinating data.

Maybe the democrats really should prioritize NC over Arizona going into 2020. It's trended D 4 times since 2000 compared to Arizona's 2 times.

Georgia is another obvious target for them.
