It's interesting that Trump actually won every income group above $50K but lost pretty much all the affluent counties, not just in the northeast and california but also in VA, NC, GA, TX.

Just looked it up. In terms of median household income, the most affluent county that Trump won was Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Trump won 11 of the 25 most affluent counties in the U.S.

Just looked it up. In terms of median household income, the most affluent county that Trump won was Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Trump won 11 of the 25 most affluent counties in the U.S.

Hunterdon was also the wealthiest county won by each of McCain and Romney. Bush won Loudoun County, Virginia, which is the wealthiest in the nation, in 2004. (Hunterdon is #4.)

At a glance, Trump won 5 of the top 10 wealthiest counties. Stafford and Putnam actually swung towards him, though Douglas and Morris in particular had big swings against him (and Hunterdon had a smaller swing against him).

4. Hunterdon County, New Jersey
6. Stafford County, Virginia
7. Putnam County, New York
9. Douglas County, Colorado
10. Morris County, New Jersey

Not the type of rich these people are going for. Everyone in Kentucky is a poor inbred, you see. That's why they vote Republican.

It would be interesting to see who won the richest county in each state.

Williamson, TN (top-15 richest county with 6-figure median income, which also goes much further in TN) voted overwhelmingly for Trump (though he ran slightly worse than Romney's 73% in the county).

Correct. Hillary crushed Trump in Nashville but lost Williamson decisively.

Also worth noting that Trump did 7 points better than Romney in Yellowstone County, Montana (Billings).

Montana has been volatile recently. Obama lost it by just 2.2% in 2008 (thanks in part to Ron Paul being a write-in candidate in the state that year). Romney won it by 13.6%, and Trump won it by 20%.

Trump is the right kind of candidate for Montana.

Actually I think Ron Paul was officially on the Montana 2008 ballot as the Constitution Party candidate.

Forsyth County isn't that affluent. Trust me.

According to 2010 census figures of median household income, Forsyth County ranks #22, ahead of any other county in Georgia.
