Obviously the global regime of petty squabbling nationalists, multinational inscrutables, a smattering of global elite etc. should and hopefully one day will be replaced by a democratic, global, decentralised government that works for the common good of humanity and the planet.

Even as a globalist, it seems very optimistic to me Smiley
Still, I hope so too.

Some people seem to be forgetting that it's supposed to be ONE regime.

Saudi Arabia.

North Korea.  Ideally replace Kin Jung Un with someone with both a better grasp on reality and a willingness to put the people first.

China. I think China has a culture that would ultimately take very well to liberal democracy, and it would both advantage the most people and serve as a much stronger weight against illiberalism elsewhere in the world than any other possible conversion.

Also, converting China to democracy basically results in the instant collapse of North Korea's regime and possibly some other dictatorships.

China into a conservative-leaning democracy/republic.

Does it really matter, by the way? I mean, looking at the scale of the current difference between China and the US, is there a noteable difference between the Democrats and Republicans?

Saudi Arabia, China, or Iran. Though I suspect Iran's regime will quietly go away in the coming decades. They don't seem to have the autocratic appetite of the early revolutionary Iran government.

How can an extremist regime, that believes in its devine right for world dominance and is actively trying to achieve it by funding terrorists, go away quietly, without a fight?

Probably China, for all of the excellent arguments listed.

Honorable mention to North Korea, because they have nukes and a crazy person.

I might be misled or ignorant, but to me it looks like they've been going through the motions of reform, or at least the appearance of such, at least when compared to the early days of the Revolution. Surely the years of the first Ayatollah were more radical and vicious than nowadays?

The Shah's son supports the democracy. Muhammed Nadir Khan, while not strictly hereditary in the line of succession, is 67 and the youngest of the former Shah's sons. Neither would probably accept the throne.

Having China evolve gradually into a liberal, parliamentary democracy (following Taiwan's example) would be a game-changer in a way a democratic Russia would not be.

China.. Russia is still an aging, weakening power.. China is on the rise, I'd rather them be on our side than against.

China - break it up into multiple rival democratic states.

You'd be going against history to try.  India is far more likely to breakup into multiple states than China is.

I'm surprised none of the white supremacists and neonazis on here have suggested South Africa or "Southern Rhodesia." Or Germany.

As for real answers, China is the best one given so far. Russia is a hopeless case and a lost cause and will be terrible under any government.

China. That would cause a breakup of the country and eliminate the problem of North Korea in the process.

ISIS will be crushed without regime change.
