The South Pole is much colder than the North Pole. The annual mean temperature at the South Pole is minus-58 degrees Fahrenheit, but the annual mean temperature on the North Pole is 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is different from what I know from other information. So here is the The annual mean temperature refers to the temperature exactly at the point, not the whole South Pole?

There are more mammals in the North Pole compared to the meager mammal fauna in the South.

Could I change it like this:There are more mammals in the North Pole than that in the South?
