You're right to be concerned.  Personally,  I do support the AWB, background checks, reasonable and fewer gun laws, but ones that aren't plea bargained away.....basically most common sense measures that would have the NRA hanging me off the nearest tree for treason, but c'mon, the fact that the Barrett is perfectly legal even though it's a sniper weapon is semi-crazy, no?  Oh, and I wouldn't recommend you getting one......you'll go flying out the back door faster than the bullet goes through the front door because of the recoil.

the thing that is illegal in California despite never being used in a crime.  No criminal would want one, what would be the point?  How many cheap semiauto handguns can you get for the price of a Barrett?  25?  If you get super cheap ammo for the .50cal you'll be spending 3 or 4 bucks a round.  Criminals ain't doing that.  Banning the Barrett is dumber than the AWB, which was pretty freaking dumb.


I don't own any guns, no need here in the peaceful part of US of A (you know, the ~99.7% where gun crime almost never happens).  I will be inheriting a cheap shotgun and a cheap revolver (both new) when the parents die.

I don't have one at my apartment, but I plan on getting a revolver for self-defense and target practice. My family is a gun-owning one. My father has several pistols and a few rifles and shotguns, and so does my brother. Every male in my family has fired a weapon before numerous times, myself included.

It is dumb, but it is completely in line with Democratic Party gun policy. Basically, just ban as much as you can, regardless if it makes a difference or not. Get kudos from special interest groups and activists, then repeat with a smile.

I'm not sure how owning a gun makes someone a maniac. Are those who own them for protection maniacs? I think it'd be perfectly understandable if you live in a dangerous community or in the countryside. Even collectors and those who use them recreationally (and safely) aren't maniacs. I can't say I understand the appeal, but to each their own.
