Gephardt, with Gore ready in case of drop-out.

Dukakis, albeit Jackson is probably closer to my ideal

also voting for Gore in 1988 would be a mistake.

Probably Simon, but it's an extremely difficult choice. All of them were wonderful candidates with the exception of Dukakis.

1. Simon
2. Jackson
3. Gephardt
4. Gore
5. Dukakis

Even though he was a bit too Conservative for my tastes in 1988, Gore. He was the most electable of the bunch. Gephardt would be my number two choice, Dukakis and Simon would be tied for third and Jackson would be dead last. If he were the nominee in 1988, the general election would be 1972 all over again.

Al Gore.

Would have been for Lloyd Bentsen actually. But he didn't run that year.

With hindsight:
Without hindsight, either Jackson or Dukakis, but both were rather unelectable.

Paul Simon.

1988 really was a very weak field (I suppose because Hart was the frontrunner until '88)
