1. He turns 35 in 2019.

2. He probably thinks of himself as a more successful businessman than Donald Trump, given that a) He's multiple times richer than even Trump's most ambitious boasts, b) He earned his money in a fraction of the time Trump did, c) He actually created something original and changed the world by his business, instead of just collecting a bunch of rents and waiting land values to rise, and d) He actually started out middle class with a dentist dad and psychiatrist mom, and didn't just inherit their business.

3. Who the hell knows? Why not? Every Jack and Jill thinks they can be president now. I mean, it makes at least as much sense as Kanye West.

Is the point of this to make Julian Castro and Andrew Cuomo not seem quite as bad?

My guess is 4 years from now... many voters will realize there is a necessary benefit... in a President actually having some experience in the Public Sector.

on a slightly different note...I still don't get all of the Julian Castro trashing.  If he were chosen, with the right person- I think he could be a very good VP.  A young politician with charisma & oratory talents can certainly make for a good combination.

#2 is an interesting comment because it's pretty clear that FB's business model fits perfectly with the idea of a US economy increasingly dominated by rentseeking.

Neither candidate would be bad, plus Mark Zuckerberg won't be bad either.

The only thing missing from Zuckerberg is his passion for politics, which is the only thing keeping his campaign from becoming a reality.

This would be an comically dumb turnaround from an "autopsy."

As I posted in the Tea Leaves thread:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=233345.msg5457909#msg5457909

Zuckerberg just said that one of his resolutions for 2017 is to do a tour of the US and meet someone from every state.  It's also come out that he "has made provisions to keep control of Facebook if he works for the government, leading to speculation that he plans to someday run for president."

And "well known douchebag" applies to Trump as well.

But obviously nominating Zuckerberg would be a terrible idea.

But Trump was nominated by the douchebag party.

Most of the douchebags I know are actually Democrats, but (not being a douchebag myself) I am nowhere near stupid enough to extrapolate based off of that.

True. Facebook should be regulated like a public utility.

Nah, won’t happen without political experience. You could argue that the Trumpster also won without experience, but can’t compare these two. Unlike Zuckerberg, the Trumpster is a showman through and through, what played an important role in his election; even on his way to the GOP nomination. If there’s going to be an outsider for Dems, it is the George Clooney type of celebrity. If Zuckerberg were to run, it would be as an independent. He would certainly have the money. But likely not the will, since it is tough, if not impossible, to win as independent candidate.

The GOP nominated a TOTALLY different type of candidate three years later...?

Zuckerberg is also a totally different type of candidate from Clinton. Policy views have nothing to do with anything in terms of elections.

(That said, hahahahahaha.)

I think he would have the same type of problem, though: too culturally out of touch to convince blue collar people that he's true to the Democratic Party's history and not anywhere near moderate enough at the end of the day to nab any significant number of moderate Republican votes.

I think everyone here is underestimating him.  I wouldn't vote for him but I think he could become president if he ran.

Conveniently just in time to run for president...

Says bad things about this country when atheists have to pretend to convert to have a ghosts chance of winning a presidential election.

Exactly.

I'm not an atheist, but I wouldn't mind an atheist president.

So...

Mark Zuckerberg is apparently a Republican? How did we all miss this?

He's as Republican as Trump was a Democrat.  If it suits his needs he will easily switch to Democrat.  I doubt he will run as an independent.
