I inherited an old WW2 era gun. I don't have ammo for it and it hasn't been used for maybe 50 years or so Tongue

Nope, no need for 'em.

One more liability that could fall into the wrong hands unless put in an expensive safe just isn't something for me to worry about.

Also, gun ownership is a ticket to becoming a pariah 'round these parts.

No, dont want one.

Think they should be banned.

I make a rule of not arguing with anyone who owns more than 18 guns.

Here are my thoughts on guns.

Personally, I don't own any guns, and traditionally, my temper has been such that I wouldn't trust myself with one.  However, I very much support the idea of responsible gun ownership.  What's "responsible" ownership of guns? Your purpose for owning a firearm is to protect your life and property, and the lives of those close to you.  Responsible gun owners know how to correctly operate their weapon, and they keep it locked up or secured in a location where kids can't get to it.

Violent felons or people who aren't quite right in the head should not be allowed to own a gun.  However, the majority of gun owners seem to be responsible law-abiding citizens.  For them, the right to own a firearm for their own protection is almost an absolute right.  That's my story, and I'm sticking to it, LOL.  Smiley

Are you being serious here? If so, I'd strongly recommend you seek help about that. Gun or not, it can't be good for you and people around you to let this sort of issues fester.

It's gotten better over the past few years....but I'm Irish, so I'll probably always have to deal with it, LOL.  Smiley

and that's why I like the Irish, their the only group that relishes in their stereotypes.  The good, bad and ugly.

(yes I know there exists Irish out there that hate the stereotypes...I mean, I assume there is, I've never run into one.  And yes, some other groups are pretty cool with some of their own stereotypes, but it's way more thorough and consistent with the Irish.)

Given that I have a tendency to become suicidal somewhat often (not as often as I used to), it is in my own best interest not to own a gun.

No.
In Hong Kong, people who own rifles without prior authorized approval are liable to double-digit duration (in terms of years) imprisonment, probably for 10-15 years.
If we all own guns, we would make use of it to vent our anger, and possibly, tragic fatalities and family breakdown will be resulted inevitably.

I won't say. As long as guns exist, it might not be prudent to say "I don't own a gun".
If some nut with a gun want's to break into your home, it doesn't make sense to let that
nut know that you don't own one.

Having said that, I am a pacifist, and my feelings about guns are congruent with my feelings about war. Killing one another doesn't solve problems, it is the problem. As long as anyone
seeks to justify war or owning weapons, we have a problem. Hypothetically, the world would be much better off without weapons of any kind, except for tranquilizer guns to shoot deer, because of the deer population problem. My views on this matter, don't matter unless I could persuade the world to be more enlightened and less insane. I won't do that because I can't do that. This thing called "freedom" makes people do crazy things. Owning a gun in and of itself is not a bad thing if you can't use it. Banning bullets would solve the problem.

2 of 2

So, you could "defend" yourself with weapons on the basis that the other person doesn't know your weapon had no bullets in it.
Conflict resolution skills is what are needed. More emphasis on peace and less on war.
This can only be done with electoral politics. Currently, we are in a bad way.

One idea that I have is the concept of the peaceful exploration of space. As much as l enjoy Star Trek, the idea that the future in space involves war is a bad idea.
I realise that this may be considered off topic, but I think the arguments against gun are congruent with arguments against war.

Having said all that, I must say, about 1/2 those who voted in this poll are sane.

Also, it is futile to argue with a gun nut in real life and tell them how evil guns are, that person might shoot you. Highly unlikely, for sure, but why take the chance?

I don't own it, the government does; and they don't let me keep any ammo. It's currently hidden away somewhere in my parents' nuclear fallout shelter.

I am not a psychopath.

Arent's fallout shelters pretty much universal for Swiss households?

Also, I don't own a gun, but I enjoy doing some practice shooting from time to time. I don't believe guns would make me safer and I abhor the mere thought of shooting to animals.

Nope, and never will. Living with depression makes too much temptation at times, so my household will be firearm-free.

They are obligatory, although the law has been relaxed somewhat in some cantons recently, so some new builds don't have them.

In theory you're supposed to leave them in a fit state to be used (beds, filters etc), but I've never seen one that wasn't just being used as storage space.

Definitely not. There's no reason any person who doesn't hunt needs a gun in an extremely urban setting like my own.
