What if Trump VETOES ObamaCare Repeal?

Let's say Pence and Congressional Republicans continue to do their thing in forming the repeal, and Trump continues to do his thing with vague tweets on how they better "be careful," etc. all while Democrats are riling up populist support for it.

The bill goes through Congress, comes to Trump's desk, he's expected to sign... and he VETOES it, tells the Republicans to try again and tie a replacement that insures even more people with it. Everybody thinks Pence is going to run the show, and Trump reasserts himself as boss, and as willing to be controversial and unpredictable.

What's the reaction, from Democrats and from Republicans, and from the people in general?

That would be an interesting scenario to witness.

Im hoping opposition in the Senate is strong enough that this scenario never happens.

As funny as that is, his fanatics would applaud him as a non-partisan that's willing to think out rational proposals for all Americans.

Trump could possible secure his re-election by doing this very thing.

You can't deny it'd be very smart politics. Despite wanting Trump to fall, I don't want him to fail. If he can do something good despite the pressure from within his own party and his VP, then he'd deserve some measure of applause.

Yeah, I could see that. It would at least be politically smart, and prove he's as independent as he says.

Does anyone see him be cunning enough to actually do this?

Don't get your hopes up. Republicans will all end up voting for repealing it.

Rand Paul is against the increase in debt. Murkowski and Collins are against defunding planned parenthood. There, 3 no Republican votes.

I can totally see him doing it if the public opinion winds were blowing in that direction. I suspect we'd see some pretty amazing mental gymnastics going on in the press releases across Washington that afternoon.

Flake, and Heller are the two most vulnerable Republicans in 2018. I would not be surprised if they abstained. Portman may abstain or vote no until an alternative is found.
