Why is it so lopsided with 8/8 Dem Jewish Senators & 20/22 Rep. who are Jewish are Dems.

Why do the Dems do such an excellent job representing Jews while Republicans do a poor job?

Do Jews feel uncomfortable running as a Republican?

Do Republican Primary voters discriminate against Jews?

How does Dems end up doing such a good job with Jews while Republicans don't?

No democrat has lost the Jewish vote since Jimmy Carter in 1980. And American Jews always overwhelmingly vote democrat. Be it Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry. A Republican has not come close to winning the Jewish vote in almost 40 years. I'd wager we'd even vote for a ham sandwich over a republican, and that's saying something.

Carter won Jews 45-39 in 1980.

While that's true, the ratio of Democrats to Republicans among Jewish members of Congress seems to be even higher than that ratio among the general public.

Who are the two Jewish Republican Representatives? I know one of them is Lee Zeldin.

Ahh, I stand corrected. What happened to 16% of Jewish voters then?

Jewish people tend to live in the cities and be liberal, hence why they are mostly Democrats.

Maybe more Jews are Democrats or something

Who are the two Jewish Republican Representatives? I know one of them is Lee Zeldin.

The other is David Kustoff of Tennessee.

I find it strange that Tennessee has two Jewish representatives whereas Washington state has only elected one historically and Minnesota has elected zero to the House.

So Jews voted third party at essentially double the national level? Interesting...

Most of us aren't too keen on dog whistles. And most of us find the Republican Israel obsession to be not only creepy, but more than a little anti Semitic.

Nope.

Mondale won them 67% to 31%.

Because the Republicans keep talking about the war on Christmas just like Henry Ford did in his book "The International Jew, the world's foremost problem."

How so?  I'm just curious.

I would like to think is there no benefit with this ultra-pro Israel stand? Why do Republicans do this? To cater to whom exactly?

They're probably crazy rapturists who plan to convert the Jews in the end.

Not Jewish but as a catholic there is something in the bible about Jews returning to Israel and then being destroyed in the opening stages of the second coming. So maybe this is know in Jewish circles so my hey see the Israel love as less genuine and more "make sure they are in place for JC to show up".

Again, people are missing the point of this thread. It isn't "Why are Jews so liberal?" It's "Why are there so few Jewish Republicans in Congress?"

But you've already been answered. Because there aren't many Jewish Republicans to begin with

No but lets' say 10 or 20 or 30% of Jews are GOP minded. Can they not chose good candidates from this pool? It is still a decent number?

Do they not run? Do they do bad in primaries? Do they feel uncomfortable running as GOP?

If GOP is the party protecting Israel & Judaism, they do a little better!

If I were to take a guess, it's because the Jews who vote GOP disproportionately come from Haredi/Hasidic sects, who are not exactly generating a ton of candidates for office.

Part of it is that very few Jews live in most of the CD's in which Pubs are competitive.

I don't think that's it, given the not insignificant number of Jews who have been elected as Democrats from congressional districts and states where Jews are only a small share of the population.

The lopsided nature of this seems to be limited to elected positions.  In appointed positions, it’s more even.  E.g., the Bush administration had Michael Chertoff, Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, Elliott Abrams, Ari Fleischer, David Frum, Ken Mehlman, etc.

Because Jews are liberal and bicoastal as a whole, and naturally gravitate to the Democrats.

Republicans support Israel for their own personal reasons (wanting a Christian-friendly government in Jerusalem, wanting a military bulwark in the middle of the Arab world) but that's not enough to swing Jews over to their side as long as Democrats remain ostensibly pro-Israel.

Now that they seem to be abandoning that premise, things may be much more up for grabs. Of course, open anti-semite Jimmy Carter won a plurality of Jewish votes in 1980, so who knows.
