Could this happen? And would Ivanka have any chance of winning?

If they both make it through their respective primaries, Ivanka gets destroyed. The Trump name is absolutely toxic in NYC.

No chance of either, as the election is in 2017, not 2018.

In 2017, maybe 1% odds and no, respectively. Can't see any Republican beating Clinton in the scenario where she runs and wins the primary. If there were going to be a Republican who beat de Blasio, it would have to be someone as far away from Donald Trump as possible (and would still require de Blasio's various slightly murky scandals getting significantly worse), not Ivanka. I'm not aware of any plausible Republican candidates who stand a greater than 5% chance of winning against de Blasio. The bench in NYC is understandably extremely weak.

No, it can't happen, because there is no NYC mayoral election in 2018.

If Ivanka is smart (she is) she will never run for public office. Ever.

And that's not the only reason.

Trump won 18% of the vote in NYC. NYC is about 40% foreign born. Foreign born plus second generation immigrants is probably a majority of the population. Even if Ivanka could win over rich Wall St people who backed Hillary over Donald, she would still max out around 30%, that is the absolute highest she could get.
