I like local politics, and find it sad that it isn't discussed much here. Who are your favourite mayors at the moment, and why?

Sharon Weston Broome came to talk to one of my classes a few years ago, and I liked her. I'm glad she was elected Baton Rouge mayor.

One must respect Kevin Faulconer for telling the Charger to  themselves.

Ivy Taylor's victory was pretty amazing too.

I like Eric Garcetti, I like Mick Cornett, I don't know enough about other mayors to make a sound judgement.

I have a lot of hope for the new mayor of Tulsa, G.T. Bynum, but we've been burned before.

I'm a conservative Republican, so there aren't many to choose from in cities you'll recognize.  I guess Lenny Curry is good in Jacksonville.  We've got to defeat Megan Barry in 2019!!

What do you think about my choices of Faulconer and Jones?

Jackie Biskupski of Salt Lake City isn't particularly my favorite, but I guess of the Utah mayors she's the best of them.

If County Mayor's count. easily Ben McAdams of Salt Lake County (SLCO). He's a good mayor.

Naheed Nenshi (Calgary), but the trio of western Canadian progressive mayors are all pretty good (Don Iveson of Edmonton and Gregor Robertson of Vancouver being the others). Eastern Canadian mayors tend to be boring centrist technocrats (Jim Watson, John Tory, Denis Coderre, etc) or right wing populist demagogues (Rob Ford, Larry O'Brien)

Fetterman. Toni Harp is doing a surprisingly good job in New Haven, CT.

Gatsas in Manchester NH is my least favorite incumbent mayor, but that's not the purpose of the thread.

My hometown mayor, Bill Martin (I-MA as far as I know), is a pretty good guy with a fascinating personal story (served in 'Nam, then became a realtor, then a nurse), although his policies aren't as good. I have some affection for Marty Walsh (D-MA) here in Boston even though he's objectively not fantastic. For reasons I'd rather not get into I have a personal debt of gratitude to Joe Malone (R-NJ), the mayor of Bordentown, New Jersey, where I lived for about a decade.
