The questions are as in the title. I know that Goldwater, of course, won the white vote in the Deep South, and Johnson won the national white vote. However, I've also seen things saying the Outer Southern states saw Goldwater win the white vote as well, though Johnson won them. In exactly which states did Johnson win the white vote? Which ones did Goldwater do so? And why did Johnson carry those Outer Southern states, if he did indeed fell short of winning the white vote?

Based on the demographics at the time Johnson almost certainly won the white vote in all states outside the South (except Arizona of course), with the very unlikely exception of Idaho. In the south he certainly won the white vote in Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. He probably won the white vote in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina, but probably lost it in Florida.

How quickly was Black voting implemented in the South after the CRA?  What percent of Blacks who "could" vote were voting yet by that election?  I'm guessing Johnson's White percentage by state pretty much perfectly matched his electoral map.  1976 is a more interesting question.
