I'd have to think he's going for Hatch's seat in 2018, but if Bob Bennett could get primaried and lose, I'm not so sure the Republican primary base in Utah will warm up to him.

Go McMullin!! I love yoU! If you run as an independent (Please!) and McAdams runs as a Democrat, my whole hypothetical Dem 2018 Senate victory in Utah will come true!

Obviously if this were to happen McAdams would likely serve a single term.

Would you endorse McMullin or McAdams?

If he is running for Senate, I assume this "organization" would be a SuperPac. In any case, my preferred candidate is Huntsman, although pretty much anyone would be a better choice than Hatch 8.0 .

McAdams. Thought I would admit... McAdams best chance for statewide would be the very likely open Gubernatorial election in 2020.

Hate to break it to you, but if the people of Utah want Hatch 8.0, it is their right to renominate and reelect him. Or if not, they can vote him out. He's done a lot for his state. This is why I oppose term limits, I don't believe government has the right to someone otherwise eligible to run can't because of experience. What I prefer is a more informed electorate, and one that actually turns out. The legislative branch should be the strongest of the 3, it comes first in the Constitution and has the longest article. Weakening the Legislative Branch would also strengthen interest groups. That said, I'd endorse Hatch, or Huntsman. #NeverMcMullin. The GOP should embrace Trump, stay united, and work with him on common goals.

@Wulfric: I don't disagree, but I don't like McMullin. Hatch got elected off ousting someone whose been in politics too long and it's crazy that he's now the guy whose been in D.C. too long. But,  I'll be backing Hatch. Hatch is a freedom fighter while McMullin is a whiny attention seeker.

@Heisenberg:Agreed on all counts. I don't support a term limits amendment, but I'm usually against congressional lifers as well. However, McMullin must be stopped.

I like Hatch, but I don't think he will run again. And I like McMullin waaaaaay more than you.

If he's running for Senate in 2018 then I don't know what to think. On one hand, he's a massive FF compared to Hatch. But I'd much rather see Huntsman challenge Hatch in a 2018 Senate primary and win, while McMullin runs for governor in 2020.

As a Trump supporter, I don't get the McMullin hate.  Here is what we should be doing: asking one simple question- who is the viable candidate furthest to the right.  If that's McMullin, we support him.  I don't care one iota about the politics of who endorsed whom.  I just want an ultra-conservative majority in Congress.

regarding the Huntsman talk: he's very strongly implied he will run if (and only if) Hatch retires.

It's now been eight years since he's lived in the state though so I wonder if that would prove to be a challenge for him

Actually Huntsman is more popular compared to Lee or Hatch!

Mostly because Dems give him really high ratings. His numbers would collapse if he actually ran.

Actually Huntsman is more popular compared to Lee or Hatch!

Mostly because Dems give him really high ratings. His numbers would collapse if he actually ran.

The linked polls show that amongst Republicans, Huntsman's approvals are 63-28, Hatch's are 65-31, and Lee's 72-16. Huntsman is also 64-28 with Mormons, and 51-41 even amongst "very conservative" Republicans.

It must be conceded that these are not good numbers for Huntsman-- or anyone else, for that matter-- if seeking to primary Hatch, but in the case of an open primary they suggest he'd have a good shot. But that depends on who else ends up running-- provided Hatch actually retires. Huntsman's name has popped up as a potential ambassador to Japan (or, who knows, if Tillerson fails to make it...), so if he takes the post it probably means Hatch is running. Then again, Huntsman's accepted an arguably ill-timed ambassadorship before, so who knows.
