You know, I want to believe him, but I can't. I'd trust Littlefinger with my life more than I would trust Martin with deadlines.

Can he just write in the ending so we can finally be done with this. To think there's another book coming after this is nuts.

He said that last year too, I don't believe him. Supposedly he's not doing any events until the book is finished but the man loves to go to every con, blog all day and not actually work. Too bad the publisher can't squeeze him until he finishes the damn book. There are plenty of authors who right books just as big as him, that are just as high of quality in less than half the time.

I hope it finishes this year. I doubt it will, but I'm going to try to remain optimistic about it.

It'll probably be out in 2019.

As someone with serious procrastination issues, I can't help sympathizing with Martin a little bit, though I can totally understand the readers' frustration.

The less interviews and events he goes to, the more time he can devote to his books.  Which means people need to stop demanding to talk to him.

I don't.  He shouldn't have sold the series to HBO before he was done.

It'd be less galling if he'd designated some sort of Christopher Tolkien-esque literary executor to tie up the series in the event of his demise. But he's explicitly refused to do that. (I think it's understandable that he has, for various reasons, but it's still incredibly frustrating.)

I volunteer for the position.

Joking aside, I don't see why he wouldn't because he gave the ending away to the show's creators. This move seems hypocritical.

Not really since the show-runners clearly have little-to-no interest in following the books at this point.  Beyond which, I suspect he only gave them broad strokes, people have this idea that everything's planned out already to the smallest detail and that seems kinda ridiculous.
