So here's this group of people (mainly men) who have started a Reddit group that aims to quit masturbation for 90 days, even without pornography. They believe it's the main cause as to their depression, lack of motivation, and lack of sex. Reading through their group posts on their sub Reddit, r/NoFap, shows that a lot of people are here for positivity and motivation.

That being said, their premise is inherently flawed and blaming masturbation for your ills is nonsensical unless you're devoting hours per day to it. Not to mention, some of their posts are downright questionable and pretty zealous.

And maybe the placebo effect will make them more motivated and happier. Limiting how often one masturbates is a great idea in of itself, but I get the impression that the Reddit sub is pretty much a pseudoscientific MRA hub, so HG, I guess.

He's not, but you're misunderstanding his argument. Maimonides states that the Tanakh does not ban [male] masturbation, which is true. However, the Talmud, on which Jewish law is largely based, does, and this has also been codified in the Shulchan Aruch which is nowadays almost universally considered to be authoritative.

The idea that a reality as multifaceted and embedded in the complexities of human experience as sex could possibly be inherently good or inherently evil is frankly downright ridiculous.
