If my understanding of metro areas is correct, I think stories of Democratic gains in suburbs are GREATLY exaggerated, and it's more the culture/income levels/demographics of the city moving father and farther away from the urban cores.

So if we can get Metro Atlanta to a D+15 margin, alongside an increase in turnout in the Black Belt, Georgia is winnable in a presidential race. Tall order, but I don't think it's impossible.

Very cool! I just now saw this. I made a similar project posted on another board that analyzes the media markets + swing for '12/'16, which might be of some help to you.

Also, in the event you haven't found it yet, I definitely recommend using Redraw the States to quickly calculate margins/vote totals for both 2012 and 2016.

Clinton got 17,136 more votes against Trump than Obama did against Romney, Clinton won Minnesota by 44,593 votes, so no.

I've seen your maps on media markets, great work! I already have the data for the first 125 metros, so I won't need the redraw the states site. The main thing that takes some time with this is putting all the data into my template and making the maps.
