I hesitate to even use the term, but not sure there’s a better phrase for it than “women’s issues”.  To quote this story from August:

This cluster of issues has been a major focus of Gillibrand in the Senate, and it’s continuing into 2017:

http://nymag.com/thecut/2017/01/gillibrand-introduces-measure-to-protect-womens-healthcare.html

Add to that the fact that she’s been vocal about encouraging women to run for public office, and she has a leadership PAC (“Off the Sidelines) that donates exclusively to female candidates:

https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/pacgot.php?cycle=2016&cmte=C00525600

And, as I just posted in the Tea Leaves thread, she’s announced that she’s going to join the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21st.

So I’m wondering, is she going to try to leverage this for her likely 2020 presidential primary campaign, and how is it going to work out?  I’m assuming there’ll be at least one other female candidate running for the Democratic nomination (probably more), so is her strategy going to be to out-identity politics them, or will she go in the other direction, and work hard to broaden her issue set to appeal more to men as well?

Gillibrand broadened her appeal to include me when she sponsored the resolution to condemn the
UN's condemnation of Israel. I think there're very few people in the Democratic Party who'd object to what she's been doing in the Senate (though I think the idea that "campus sexual assault" is something that can be solved at a federal level is questionable at best, but whatever).

I think that she needs to broaden her scope for sure. Running a gendered campaign really doesn't seem like a winning strategy.

Crazy idea but it's possible these are the issues she cares most about (or thinks she has the highest chance of impacting).

I like Gillibrand. This isn't sexism - this is doing work in the Senate, a novel idea to most Senators. I would happily support Gillibrand in her current form. I am afraid she will start pulling a Hillary Clinton and start becoming more extreme on economics, but that is a concern of mine for most Democrats.

Alright, that's great. She ought to keep voting accordingly and campaigning for these issues. But it really isn't the best platform for a general election.

She kinda shot herself in the foot with the Emma Sulkowicz incident.

Gillibrand's problem is her penchant for reinventing herself based on her constituency (which I don't think is an inherently bad thing, but which looks really bad these days), not any particular issue or issue set.

Not a problem if she's successful at it. Which would be an insipid cliche of response on my part, except that Democrats are extremely likely to nominate someone who's gone through a significant political reinvention since 2016.

Okay, I gotta ask about your signature, haha.  Is there some thing I'm unaware of that ties those POTUS' together?

Good. Women are half the population, the issues that are important to them should at least get a place in our discourse.
