I'm back

But for tonight, to symbolize where the hell I went for the last two days, I'm changing my avvie.

Suffice to say 800+ miles with 6 hours+ of it bein' in Nevada is no fun at all! I'm just glad the temperature never reached temperatures that'd make Goldilocks or Tony blush.  Also, California gave both the warmest [home] and coolest temperatures [top of Donner Summit]

I-80 across NV is one of the dullest drives I've done. The scenery was interesting for about the first 30 minutes and then it kept being more of the same. I might as well have been driving an interstate across NE or KS for all the interest the road provided. When I headed east again, I went across US-50 which I found distinctly more tolerable, despite its label as the loneliest road in America.

To be fair, this time around, there was a lot of fresh snow on the mountains and contrasting weather between rain, sleet, and sun. The way up was just cloudiness and last year was blazing sun.

Still dull, but could've been worse.

What's the car Muon2?  Dan and I got a new car in January, an rdx, and we just love it. It basically just drives itself.

2016 BMW X3. This car was used as a loaner from the service dept. In the pic you might be able to see that it is already fitted with the MUON2 license plate. My wife just got back from our sister city not far from the big BMW plant in Bavaria, and she's the head of our sister city club here, so it seemed natural.

Ah, nice car. It looks quite similar to an rdx, and I walked outside to look at our car just to confirm that no, what your wife got, was different. I don't think NY has vanity plates, unlike CA and apparently Illinois. Smiley

We started our search at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show and sat in about 40 cars. The RDX was one, but my wife didn't like the layout of the driver's compartment as much as other cars. For our road trips that matters quite a bit. We had rented an X3 in January during our vacation in NV so we knew it would meet our long distance needs.

Just got home from a MUN conference. I represented Antiochus (Athens) in a Crisis Committee reenactment of the Peloponnesian War.

We were able to squeak out a victory by stoking helot rebellions, launching a surprise attack at Pylos (which I helped devise) at which we established a helot army led by Pythagoras and decimated "invincible" Spartan troops by inflicting a 60% casualty rate on their forces even as they retook the city months later, and widespread guerrilla warfare at the Isthmus of Corinth on top of expanded border fortifications. It ended when, after gradually cutting down their massive land army, we stormed Sparta with helot and Macedonian reinforcements as they were launching a massive and costly offensive in Attica.

Lots of weird stuff happened -- we killed a Spartan king when he attempted to walk across the Isthmus of Corinth with a force of only 100 men, and ten triremes loaded with Greek Fire ran aground after we attempted to send them down an extremely shallow and narrow river in order to suicide-bomb Sparta.

Most interestingly, civil war broke out within Spartan troops occupying Athens because Lysander had secretly created a death cult centered around him to take power after we imploded. Despite the fact that he that he was killed at sea after we ambushed his fleet, the cultists were instructed to start massacring their fellow soldiers as soon as the long walls were breached, which gave us time to regroup at the Acropolis and defeat the decimated Spartans.

Most of the craziness was caused by the Spartan committee constantly trying to backstab each other as the Athenian committee united to protect their territories.

This is way, way too much detail, but whatever Tongue

That sounds pretty fun, actually.

So got the keys to the apartment Friday PM, after 7 months of living in hotels, and had to go to work right away by 6 AM Sat with no furniture, and my wife working completely opposite shifts at the same huge warehouse facility.

They let me out a few hours early, because we dramatically exceeded production levels for "inbound" on one of the busiest weeks of the season, so was able to do the 20 minute walk home from work to give my wife a kiss, before she had to head into the plant for her 12 hour grave shift...

Although it's a bit a bit of a bummer from the money side, where I can use extra cash right now, that they didn't end up calling me into mandatory OT working the line, at least we'll have a few extra days togather to maybe actually pull some of our furniture from storage, and not be sleeping on air matresses in an empty apt...

Also, not sure when I can get internet yet--- been doing the 1 hr "free Comcast" gig, so to be back online with Atlas.... so missing out on all the drama. Wink

I'm glad to hear things are getting better NOVA! I don't know if you're aware of this, but Comcast does offer service(s) for families with difficult situations. I don't know if you qualify, but here is a link:

Thanks Virginia!!!

Don't worry--- getting back to stable internet service is definitely towards the top of the list, since it is no longer offered courtesy of hotels... Wink

I have a few more numbers I need to run about some election somewhere that I can't exactly recall after a 90 hour marathon. Smiley

The last three days were pretty great.

On Sunday, I had an exceptional time at Church, and earned some money afterwords.

On Monday, went on a book shopping binge, and got about 20-25 books.

Today, went hiking with a friend of mine, and had a great talking.

Phone interview went well today. This company's turned me down the two previous summers, but I have an honestly good feeling about this. The bad feeling is that this is a night job and, while it probably pays more than the job that I have lined up, and while it has some form of tuition reimbursement, and a better commute, that single fact is a bit horrifying. Given my own introverted tendencies, I don't know if a night job would suit me well. I guess I'll wait to hear about compensation (if I even make it to the next round of interviews) and then have a bit more informed of a decision in front of me.

In other news: two final papers down, three to go. Two in-class exams, one take-home. And that's a bachelors degree with nine extra graduate credits.

At my last undergraduate formal, I was granted the "Brotherhood Award"; I'm up tonight for "Greek Man of the Year" from campus. We'll see how that goes.

So my phone is 100% broken

My home button has been broken for weeks now, and now my phone is zoomed in on my wallpaper and responding to very few things and I can't do anything. Best advice I've received was to run down my battery, but I've got 80% of that and can't do anything to run it down quickly... :/

So I was exited becuase these past two days i have been feeling "normal", and by that I means little symptoms of whatever it is that have. That ended in a mildly terryfying episode in math class today, when I felt a throbbing, pulled muscle kind of pain on the left side of my neck, in addition my left arm got kind of tingly and weak.

This is the same spot that game me my first major panic attack a little less than a year ago so I am unsure if it is a coincidence.

Got the piece of paper. Yay.

Meanwhile, with how it looks right now, three papers down, two to go!

I had been thinking of buying some adult Underoos, He-Man for me and She-Ra for my fiancee. Then I realized that they were brother and sister and we don't live in the Ozarks, so I decided that would be a bad idea.

Model United Nations. Crisis Committee plays with the proceedings more than most other committees, but basically it's a mockup of the actual United Nations.

As for how I got into it -- more or less half because I was dragged in by a close friend and half because I actually want to learn.

For RL reasons I'll be taking a leave of absence from the forum. I'll be logging once or twice a day to check if there's any post to moderate on my boards, but that's all.
