Alexa Lange-Wesner, 44 years old. Democrat. Successful entrepreneur and founder of 2 start-up companies in TX and now multi-millionaire. Swimmer and tri-athlete. Mother of 3 young kids. US-ambassador to Austria, appointed by President Obama - whom she supported with over 600.000 $ during his campaigns.

Her job in Austria ends on Friday with the inauguration of President Trump and she moves back to Colorado, where her family recently moved to from Texas. Her kids and Austrian cats are already in Colorado, as she said in her closing interview in the "Krone" newspaper today ... Wink

Goodbye, Alexa. You represented the US well here.

In the interview she remained open to running for Congress in the future, when asked by the Krone reporter.

Would she be a strong contender to beat incumbent Sen. Cory Gardner in 2020 ?

I think she'd be a great candidate, being a Obama-supporting progressive centrist with foreign policy experience but also a successful businesswoman who appeals to Republicans.

Your thoughts ?

On Friday, she has been awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold with Sash for Services to the Republic of Austria - which is also not a bad thing to add to your CV.

One question: is Cory Gardner entrenched at this point?

Meeting the future (Green) President of Austria was also one of the last things to do for her:

On paper she seems like a decent enough candidate, but I don't know nearly enough about her to know for sure. Have there been any other Senators elected with ambassadorships as their main experience?

And yeah, first-term Senators in swing states are not "entrenched." Gardner is very vulnerable as long as Democrats run someone better than Udall.

This is how I feel - this person seems like a decent candidate on paper, if she runs we'll see how she does in reality.

House members have been elected in the past with ambassadorships as their main experience (such as Francis Rooney in 2016, or Ann Wagner in 2012); it is uncommon but not unheard of. I can't think of a single Senator who has done it, though.

CO is trending Democratic friendly, and will be Democratic friendlier in 2020; whoever, the Democratic nominee is, which I hope will be Tulsi Gabbard or Castro bros, then Gardner will have an uphill battle with whomever he battles with.

She'd be better off running for the House. Her experience seems remarkably similar to Polis.

Fortysomething tech-millionaire who bundled for Democrats before going on to serve in a minor, if not prominent, position.

Looks similar to Ann Wagner. Maybe challenge Coffman first?

I would say she seems like a solid recruit for a house seat but not high profile enough to take on Gardner yet. She might be someone to watch.
