Even if he did she would probably blow him out at this point in time.

He'll run for governor again. It's the one big statewide office that is currently viable for Democrats.

Nah, I doubt it. She'd be a much tougher opponent than Bill Cole.

I highly doubt it.

I don't see Democrats seriously challenging SMC while she's in office. Once she retires, they may try to recruit someone to go for it, but as long as she's in, she's safe.

I doubt he would be DOA. Red states are much more likely to elect a "moderate" Senator from the opposite party than blue states. And WV is really not a deep Republican state (it's a bit similar to MT, I guess), not to mention that Capito is not even a good fit for the state.
This is very, very true. Anyway, in an open seat race I could still see Justice winning, but I'm almost certain he'll run for reelection, that would be much safer for him.

Maybe he'd win to replace Manchin - if Manchin for some reason leaves office - but I think Capito is too popular.

No, he'll run for reelection. It would be nice if Earl Ray Tomblin ran against Captio, though.

So did I.

Moore Capito is sufficiently moderate to be undefeatable. I suspect Justice is more likely to run for the other seat in 2024.

She isn't "sufficiently moderate" to be undefeatable; she's just a decent fit for West Virginia.

Capito IS a good fit for the state, She comes from famous family, she IS a Republican, and she is a pragmatic moderate-conservative with some "porker" inclinations. Excellent fit.

This. Tomblin could go well and not put someone young and upcoming (Boothe?) out of a job.

This would be one of rare instances I'd strongly root for a GOP nominee.

I have no idea if he will run, I would like it if he did. He probably would be the best Democratic candidate, he seems pretty popular in WV

He'll be 69 in 2020 and 73 in 2024.  I really don't see him running for the Senate for the first time at either of those ages.  But, like Trump, he is old enough to do whatever he wants.

Does anyone know why Justice changed from being a Republican to a Democrat in 2014, just as his state was becoming more solidly Republican?  Was it perhaps because he didn't think he could get the Republican gubernatorial nomination over Cole?

He must be the most conservative Democratic governor in the nation, even more conservative than John Bell Edwards, I believe.

WV is a semi-closed primary state. He probably believed he couldn't beat Cole in the GOP primary. Independents can vote in primaries. WV has several conservative registered Democrats. He is more conservative than John Bel Edwards. Justice even refused to endorse Hillary Clinton.

Her personality might be, but a libertarian moderate seems the exact opposite of most WV moderates.
