I've always wondered why people ask about the meaning of life. What would you alter about your life if you were to find out that, say, the meaning of life is to acquire as much knowledge as possible? Weren't you already trying (or maybe not trying) to do that?

A better question is what happens after death. That's the one universal unknown that I wish I knew the answer to.

As a religious person, of course I have to say the meaning of life is 'know, love, and serve God in this world and the next.'

That said, I always think of this quote when that question comes along:

"I don't know why we are here, but I'm pretty sure that it is not in order to enjoy ourselves."

A secondary definition would be:

Probably the only time I have really been able to answer that question was after I had children. They provide a lot of purpose. Whether that translates to meaning is another question.
