The only things Florida has that Arizona doesn't are swamps and beaches. The swamps are full of giant lizards that will kill you, and the beaches are full of tourists. Some of whom will also kill you.

Arizona has:

  • beautiful mountains and scenic vistas
  • saguaros (as mentioned above) and lots of other incredible and unique flora
  • dry heat
  • THE GRAND CANYON
  • actual cowboys
  • roadrunners
  • the Meat Puppets
  • an easy-to-reach name from dropdown lists when filling out forms
  • a cool flag

Both seem awful, but Florida at least has the sea.

Both seem like great states with a lot of variety to offer their residents.  I'll go with Florida, as I am a beach bum at heart, but my friends who have moved to Arizona LOVE it.

Florida, my family used to take vacations there once a year. I'd like to go again.

Arizona since it has mountains and high elevation towns like Flagstaff where the climate is tolerable.

Both seem awful, but Florida at least has the sea.

The sea has Florida might be a better way of putting it, especially within a few decades.

Arizona has beautiful landscapes and the northern parts are similar to New Mexico. It's a surprisingly diverse state in a lot of ways, although Phoenix is a nightmare.

Florida, on the other hand... worse traffic, some of the ugliest urban development in any part of the country, full of affluent olds who abandoned their communities to retire to their personal castles in developments that ban children and watch television indoors all day. Also some of the worst social policies of any state in the country. (No other state comes close to the generational poverty divide here - even Arizona, with large populations of retirees and immigrant families, doesn't compare.)

Even its beaches are overrated, with a few exceptions. (I do like the Keys.)

Pretty much this. Florida is a disaster of a state for anyone who isn't old and wealthy. Being poor in this state, including working class, is just a huge F-U. Even if you love the sea, Florida's not worth it.

Florida.  I would never want to live around all those nasty desert critters.

I live in Nice Florida, basically any part of FL that isn't Southern culturally. It's amazing and the diversity here is great.

Er... You do realize Florida is mostly swampland, right? There are far more critters in the swap than in the desert...

Best comment in this thread.

You don't want to know what's likely to happen to you if you survive a helicopter crash in the middle of the everglades. Cheesy

So much for Broward's vision of draining it all

No.  I prefer them to desert critters.

My Hometown's ZIP code (in France) correspond to the city of Prescott, Arizona. So I feel kinda more connected with Arizona than Florida. An uncle of mine lived in Miami for a while, though. But hurricanes... Also, I loved Breaking Bad and Arizona kinda looks like New Mexico.

I'd argue that Florida's best parts (St. Pete, the Keys) are better than Arizona's best parts (Flagstaff, Tucson), and though both have awful Sunbelt sprawl I'd prefer living in suburban Tampa or Orlando to suburban Phoenix, which to me sounds like the worst part of the country. Arizona does win on fewer animals likely to kill you.

Scottsdale would be in my top 5 places to live in the US.

Arizona is the better of two evils because it's not all Phoenix.
