Further to my previous thread where Pence resigns and Trump has to pick a new Vice President, this thread deals with the scenario where Trump resigns from the Presidency, Pence becomes the new President, and Pence has to pick a new Vice President.

Who should President Pence then pick as the new Vice President?

Please discuss.

I am seeking serious discussion here, not answers like Ivanka Trump or Jared Kushner for example.

Thank you.

Is this like Trump resigns like Nixon in 1974 or he resigns but is popular?

We will say that Trump resigns the Presidency due to health reasons.  We will also say that Trump has an approximately 50% approval rating.

Obviously not a serious answer, but thank you for your participation anyway.

Now that is an interesting pick.

I am of the view that Tom Cotton is a rising star in the Republican Party and in the nation.

He has a bright political future ahead of him.

To obtain the Vice Presidency at such an early age and at such an early point in his career would put him on the fast track I believe.

Pence is seen as pretty far-right, so I think he needs a relative moderate to unite Republicans around him and attract independents. Brian Sandoval or, as Sunrise said, Susana Martinez would probably be decent choices. Perhaps Kelly Ayotte or, since it would be about a year or two from now, Chris Sununu (depending on his performance as governor). As a longshot possibility, if he remains as well-regarded as he is now, maybe Mad Dog Mattis?

Some interesting picks, as well as an accurate observation that perhaps Pence would do well to pick someone with a somewhat moderate approach.

Brian Sandoval, Ben Sasse, Nikki Haley, or maybe Scott Walker.

Pence/Walker would be a Midwestern duo.

Thank you for your interesting input.

Jeb? - no seriously, Ford picked Rockefeller...

For sure, I believe Jeb would be a credible pick.  Brings various factions of the party together.

Nikki Haley would probably be a top pick. One of the outgoing governors (assuming this is around 2018) would be solid too - I'd support Kasich or Sandoval (doubt Pence would pick them though) or maybe Haslam.

Thank you for your input.  Good picks.
