A true patriot.

Very much unlike the sorry excuse for a leader we have now.

Please, dear God, do not let me live to be 92.  Don't.

I think this may be his final year of life.  No one at that age truly recovers from pneumonia -once it's in you, it stays there until it ultimately kills you, months after you initially contract it. Although that is probably just a symptom of what's truly killing him, whatever it may be.  In my father's case, it was MDS and leukemia.  They are not unlike HIV-AIDS in the sense that they weaken your immune system to the point that a simple cold can turn into a potentially lethal pneumonia.

Pneumonia is a collection of infectious diseases that one wards off so long as one is reasonably healthy. Infectious diseases are everywhere, and if one bacillus doesn't finish a weakened person, then something else will.  Pneumonia is the Angel of Death for many cancer patients, people with prion diseases, or people with organ failure.  It is usually easy to treat, but once the kidneys failure, the antibiotics themselves are too difficult for the body to  handle.

Here's wishing the best to the best Republican President in a long time.

Not to be pessimistic, but when you start being admitted to the hospital for pneumonia every couple of months, that is a pattern that usually occurs at the end of one's life. I've seen it in older relatives multiple times.

What makes it sadder is that I doubt Barbara Bush will live much longer after her husband dies. From what I've read about them, they have a level of devotion to one another that is above and beyond that of any other recent presidential couple.

Really sad. Hope Poppy gets well soon. It would be amazing to see both Poppy Bush and Jimmy Carter living to 100.

It's just logical, not pessimistic.  I've lost 4 grand parents, 1 parent, and 2 inlaws to age.......they died with varying problems but we knew when the end was coming. Poppy Bush is in his 90s and has had a wonderful life, but when you get pneumonia as often as he does, the heart is going to give out.

When it's time, no regrets for that man, I'm sure.

But it will be a sad day for us.
