You guys would rather live in McDowell County WV than the locale of your choice in the biggest and most varied/diverse state in the union?
Huh

No offense but do either of you have any idea what West Virginia is actually like

I used to visit family friends in Wheeling and Martinsburg for weeks when I was young. So, no I haven't seen every bleeding inch of  West Virginia. But I do have a grasp of the state, and happen to like it a lot.

I've visited some places in California (Los Angeles, suburban Sacramento) and didn't like it.

Tbf Martinsurbg is quite different from the rest of the state as is the eastern panhandles in WV.

That's something I noticed. Felt more like the suburbs around Pitt and NoVa than West Virginia.

Lassen County easily. You don't have to live in Susanville. A house in a mountainous part of California could be quite beautiful.

Yeah Lassen is nothing but a collection of prisons.  Although there are a surprising number of prisons around Morgantown (thanks Sen Byrd).  Still, Morgantown provides the benefits of a college town and with more than half the student body from out of state, your really not in WV except geographically.

Both are rural counties that used to be Solid D way back when [Lassen didn't even vote for Nixon] but have both since switched sides, both are mountainous, however, one has Morgantown...while the other has a really pretty former volcano.

The nearest YUGE city for one is Pittsburgh, PA...the other is Reno,NV...maybe Sacramento.

So which will it be?

Ironically, Lassen Peak isn't actually in Lassen County, but in Shasta County. Likewise Mount Shasta isn't in Shasta County, but in Siskiyou County.

Yuba City isn't in Yuba County (it's in neighboring Sutter County) and Placerville is in El Dorado County, not Placer County.

As a Californian, I hate to say this, but probably Morgantown.

First of all, both are far too rural. Second of all, both get far too cold. I would pick Reno or Sacramento over Pittsburgh, but Morgantown seems better than anyplace actually in Lassen County... Hmm, I think I'm actually going with West Virginia over California here, which seems really weird to me. Tongue

Well I  have been to Lassen County, but never to WV.  I just put lassen, but WV would have better laws.  Lassen County is so beautiful though, so I put it.
