In many ways, Harding's rise to power was similar to Obama's.
 
One presidency was self-evidently successful both at home and abroad. The other one resulted in President Donald Trump.

1. FDR  (Not only did america survive during the depression and WW2 , it became a economic and military superpower after it, and FDR was president through the transformation)

Great:
2 . Teddy Roosevelt  ( America leaped on to to world stage in his presidency, and he made our food and coal mines safe)
3. Truman( Put in policy to win the cold war, marshall plan,  economic boom lasting past war time)
4. Reagan( got america out of the malaise of the 1970s, pushed the soviets over the edge to collapse)
5. IKE  ( ended korea with south korea still a western ally, ended school segregation , used to be number 3 till i found about his decisons in iran and cuba)

Good:

Mediocre:

Hoover wasn't responsible for the Depression.  He believed based on history that the market would correct itself, and unfortunately was mistaken.

Most of the "record surpluses" under Clinton were the result of compromises with Congressional Republicans like Newt Gingrich and John Kasich.  After 9/11, the government was forced to spend more money on national defense, so the increase of debt under Bush 2 is somewhat forgivable.

While Harding's administration was corrupt, he actually had some significant achievements: he cut taxes and helped usher in a period of economic prosperity, and he pushed hard for civil rights, not only for blacks, but for Catholics and immigrants as well.

Obama is always going to be overhyped simply because of breaking the color celling, which of course was a big deal.

I view Obama as an excellent candidate, decent on policy (especially given the gridlock) and utterly terrible as political operative/party leader.

He also arguably prevented this country from falling to fascism (he certainly saved the world from it in WWII though) or communism with his leadership during the Great Depression.

No, that would be countless soviet troops on the eastern front who took a disproportionate amount of the casualties in the war and get a disproportionate lack of credit from American history books. Please don't be deluded into thinking that a racist man in Washington had anything to do with our victory in Europe.
