This photo by Reuters News Pictures staff photographer Lucas Jackson was taken at 12:01:18 p.m. not hours before the inauguration like a lot of you Trumpies are asserting.

Evidence that long lines kept people out of Inauguration from Right Side Broadcasting

Now tell us how jet fuel can't cause industrial girders to crack, and Neil Armstrong's shadow on the moon was obviously caused by backlighting.

Mila Kunis is my girlfriend. That's not a lie, it's just an alternative fact. I want it to be true, so don't trigger me by calling it a lie you elitist leftist hacks!

inside conservative twitter-verse there is an interesting debate.

the never-trumpers and hardcore-ideologues are calling out the trump administration while some of the more tribal "conservatives" are calling it sweet revenge for the obama years and the media system in general and are celebrating a possible crackdown on the media system.

seems a bit like an "Order 66" falllout happening live.

Or, even better, just a "trump".
Already taken - in Britain, it's a slang for passing gas in a loud and obnoxious way.

And now we have:
Lie -> Alternative fact

I would like to suggest a better version. How about a "trump fact". Or, even better, just a "trump".

It would just roll so nicely off the tongue: "this is a trump!", "I caught you on a trump!", etc.

I've always been a little surprised Trump hasn't gotten the smurf treatment.

"The President really trumped some trump in his trumping speech the other day".

It captures the general lack of meaning and intelligence associated with the Trump-cult well.

I'm amazed that there are Trumpistas trying to contort themselves into believing what Spicer said, when Conway herself admitted that he was lying, because I for one don't see what else "alternative facts" could possibly mean in normal-person English.

Arendt says somewhere that governments that play fast and loose with the truth don't do so because they even want be believed, but to signal that this is the way reality would have to be for what they plan to do in the future to be justified. What's probably going on here is that the Trump people know that there would have to be much more widespread enthusiasm for Trump than actually exists to justify whatever he's planning to do in office, and for some reason want to signal to the world that they know it.

Perhaps that's going to be the name of the state-run media that the Dear Leader is going to begin?

FWIW there's a theory bouncing around Never Teump Twitter that Conway basically was just throwing Spicer under the bus with this whole thing (and Tom Barrack coming out and saying that he was the one who gave The Donald a crowd estimate that was off, this leaping joyously beneath the same bus). There may be something to that.

Great start to a Presidency either way Tongue

trump wanted kelly-ann as press secretary...priebus lobbied for spicer.

trump pushed spicer to do this and then thrashed him for failing to "polish that turd".

i can't see spicer's future going well right now.

well, now she can spin this stuff herself, while spicer is forced to read royal declarations.

seems like the right call.

Kellyanne (learn to spell her name) was the first woman to manage a winning presidential campaign. She is a longtime pollster and political operative. She is way too qualified for Press Secretary, which is barely one step above a potted plant.

Anyway, alternative facts was an accurate description. Evasiveness and refraction are typical for Press Secretaries, but they need to keep their cool and maintain a good relationship with the media. Spicer represented the facts in a favorable light but his combative attitude undermined what he actually said.

i agree with your assessment of press sec. but she managed about 1/5 of the campaign at most and got outplayed in that timeframe by the likes of bannon, imho.

but it's possible that her personal skills convinced trump that he must "shut up" to win.

"Alternative facts"... how Orwellian.

It is an "alternative fact" that sulfuric acid makes a great beverage and lotion.

As I doubt she was referring to an argument in Kuhnist\Rorty style versus truth realism, it is safe to say Trump is probably the first post-modern president. Which gives me a little delight as I always said this deconstructionist BS is going to blow up in everybody's face.

Haha, exactly the left's shtick.

Ummmm, since when? Seriously. The entire "liberal media" blah blah blah led to the foundation of Fox, so people could live in a conservative echo chamber and reporting facts became subservient to propaganda vaguely posing as reporting.

Pull the false equivalency BS all you want, MSNBC giving Rachel Maddow a show and approximately 100 people subscribing to The Young Turks doesn't mean there's anything remotely of the same magnitude or scale or ubiquitousness of behavior on the left.
