IOWA CAUCUSES
51 delegates

Sheryl Sandberg         36.5%  [19 delegates]
Elizabeth Warren        30.0%  [15 delegates]
Cory Booker               24.0%  [12 delegates]
Andrew Cuomo             9.5%  [5 delegates]

After months of leading national polls, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has won the 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses. After eliminating super delegates, the DNC has now effectively withdrawn control over the primary process. DNC Chair Keith Ellison congratulated Sandberg and urged Democrats who did not hit the viability threshold to drop out. Those include former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.

President Trump's approval rating, while low at 41%, was inching up from three years of a largely sedative administration. Unemployment rate has risen to 5.2%. The Affordable Care Act was not repealed, though HHS Secretary Tom Price essentially stopped enforcing the rule of the law. After Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned in 2018 for calling a subordinate disparaging racial remarks, Attorney General Chris Christie began to, en masse, prosecute drug offenses across the country. 54% of Americans disapprove of the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo are also vying for the Democratic nomination. Sen. Warren holds a slight and shrinking lead in New Hampshire.

NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY
32 delegates

Elizabeth Warren     44.6%  [14 delegates]
Sheryl Sandberg     29.9%   [10 delegates]
Cory Booker           19.0%   [6 delegates]
Andrew Cuomo         6.0%  [2 delegates]

Elizabeth Warren crushed her opponents in the New Hampshire primary, outperforming Sheryl Sandberg by double-digits according to polling.

Gov. Cuomo has dropped out and endorsed Sheryl Sandberg, giving Sandberg her first high-profile elected official endorsement of the presidential race. Cory Booker has insisted that he will go forward to Nevada and South Carolina, and rumors are swirling that Warren and Booker may unite as a ticket against the "fundamentally good, but fundamentally inexperienced" Sandberg, as they call her.

After months of a grueling primary duel with Elizabeth Warren, Sheryl Sandberg emerged as the clear victor in the 2020 Democratic primaries. Despite garnering few notable endorsements, Sandberg was able to create a coalition of millennial voters, mothers, and urban voters that propelled her to a substantial victory.

States Sandberg won
AL, AK, AR, AZ, CA, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, Guam, HI,  IL, IN, IA, LA, MI, MO, NC, NM, NV, NJ, NY, Northern Mariana Islands, OH, OK, PA, Puerto Rico, SC, TN, TX, U.S. Virgin Islands,

States Warren won
CO, Democrats Abroad, ID, KS, KY, MA, ME, MN, MT, ND, NE, NH, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY

Looking Ahead to Trump

After clinching the Democratic nomination, Sheryl Sandberg remained tied with Donald Trump in the polls. Warren did not officially quit the race until the last contests in June, despite being mathematically eliminated weeks earlier. So when Sandberg was officially the last Democrat standing, the Democratic establishment and various progressive wings of the party rallied behind her.

First post primary polls (June 24, 2020)
NAT: Sandberg 49% - Trump 45%
CO: Sandberg 48% - Trump 43%
GA: Trump 47% - Sandberg 44%
NC: Trump 49% - Sandberg 46%
PA: Sandberg 48% - Trump 43%
TX: Trump 49% - Sandberg 39%
VA: Sandberg 50% - Trump 40%

June 24, 2016 Trump approval/disapproval rating: 42%/53%

Have to say, it's funny that I'm developing this TL while there's mini-speculation about her actually running.

Yes. Her big issues are health care (undoing Trumpcare debacle), immigration reform (preventing the building of the overly-expensive, useless border wall, as she sees it), pro-worker entrepreneurial climate (unemployment has risen under Trump), and climate change. Warren ran largely on universal college tuition and single payer health with Wall Street reform and the message did not resonate as well as it did with Sanders.

July 14, 2020

With the 2020 DNC Convention just days away in Cleveland, Ohio, presumptive Democratic nominee Sheryl Sandberg is facing immense pressure to choose a vice presidential candidate who will not only "do no harm," but also compensate for her perceived deficiencies, including foreign policy experience and fear of lack of competency. While his policies overall were unpopular, President Trump has most been damaged by his perceived lack of competence. Numerous instances of fumbling military operations, legislative rollouts, and administration hirings were dogged by an aura of incompetence and amateurishness. In fact, recent polling showed that 56% of likely voters viewed President Trump as somewhat or very incompetent, whereas just 40% view him as somewhat or very competent.

Moreover, Trump's July 2020 approval rating has risen to 39%, up from all-time low of just 26% in March 2019 when he "dared" ISIS to try and attack energy sites in the U.S., as was discovered by a plot foiled by FBI agents in Texas.

Polls until now have shown Trump trailing Sandberg after leading her head-to-head during the heated primary campaign. The most recent PPP poll has Sandberg up 46% to 43% against President Trump, and importantly, Sandberg has maintained a lead in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin since May.

To compensate for a potentially stronger Trump in the fall and late summer, Sandberg is considering the following vice presidential candidates, as acquired by leaks and trial balloons from her campaign team.

Top Tier Shortlist
- Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ)
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)
- Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV)
- Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
- Gov. Steve Bullock (D-MT)
- Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
- Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA)
- Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH)
- former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D-PA)

Serious Consideration
- Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH)
- Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-NY)
- former Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I-NY)
- Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA)
- Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO)
- Rep. Val Demings (D-FL)
- Sen. Angus King (D-ME)
- former Xerox CEO Ursula Burns
- Actor Tom Hanks
- Actor Will Smith
- Sen. Al Franken (D-MN)
- Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC)

Dark Horse Candidates
- Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed (D-GA)
- Former Gen. John Allen
- Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX)
- Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL)

Democratic Nominee Sheryl Sandberg Announced Congressman Tim Ryan Will Join Ticket

To the chagrin of Democratic leaders in Congress, Democratic presidential nominee Sheryl Sandberg announced that renegade Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio would join her ticket at her vice presidential candidate, just 1 day before the commencement of the Democratic National Convention, also located in Ohio.

The theme of the Democratic National Convention will be 'Reclaiming and Reinvigorating America.'

Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted that Congressman Ryan was a "lightweight" and a "union crusader."

Election Night Eve

Sandberg: 200
Trump: 199
Tossup 139

'Twas the night before the election and the entire country was in suspense. The voters do not like Donald, and they do not like Pence.

As of late night, Nov. 2, 2020, President Trump has a 42% approval rating, with 54% of Americans disapproving of Trump. But after a grueling battle with Sheryl Sandberg, just 50% of Americans have a favorable view of her, with 43% holding an unfavorable view.

The battleground map looked different than it had any previous years. Whereas Iowa and Ohio seem likely to go for Trump, North Carolina and Georgia are bona fide tossups. In fact, Sheryl Sandberg led 5 of the last 10 polls in Georgia, and 7 of the past 10 polls in North Carolina.

Voters in rural America were beginning to experience the colossal pain attributed with the Repair Health Care Act and the Greater Again Health Act, laws dubbed "repaired versions" of the Affordable Care Act. Health insurance consumers were provided with health care savings account, which largely worked well for consumers with large health insurance markets, but the rollout was devastatingly unsuccessful in states like Kentucky and Florida.

Meanwhile, in August 2020, a devastating hurricane hit the Carolina coast, and it was discovered that President Trump, through his son Eric, benefited financially from storm recovery efforts. In early 2017, Eric Trump created 'The Greater Group,' a for-profit government consulting firm that created operational and administrative support for core government functions, including public security, tax reform, and privatization of municipal services. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) opened up a formal investigation in October 2020, and the fact-finding remains ongoing.
