House of Cards seems popular here. I wonder if Breaking Bad is popular on Chemistry forums.

I still really don't get how any self-respecting politics nerd could like House of Cards.

I don't take it too seriously, but Kevin Spacey is an amazing actor, and his portrayal of Frank Underwood is remarkable. I watch it for the characters and the plot, not for the politics. The Raymond Tusk plotline was particularly unbelievable. The original show has the same unrealistic taint: at the end, Francis Urquhart (the English Frank) forces the King himself to abdicate, which is ludicrous.

But I started watching House of Cards before I was even aware of the existence of half of the US states, so it didn't strike me as particularly unrealistic at the time...

The big difference is that British HoC knows that its portrayal of politics has no basis in reality, and as such can have fun with it (I'm not exactly fond of the British HoC either, because the ending is still too grotesque and clichéd, but I'll still give it that). American HoC, by contrast, somehow thinks it's making #deep commentary on US politics.
