Should they be nonpartisan in order to promote impartiality?

No, voters have a right to know where their AGs stand on important issues such as abortion.

A party label on the ballot does not say where a candidate stands on issues like abortion. Voters need to listen to candidates' campaigns and read voters' guides to look at those issues. I think state AG elections should be nonpartisan.

Judges and attorney generals shouldn't be elected in the first place.

Christ, I've found something that I agree with you on

America elects far, far too many positions that could probably be done better by professional civil servants; although I may well believe that because I just don't understand the motivation behind electing lawyers and judges.

And besides "nonpartisan" elections don't mean you don't have a Democrat and a Republican candidate. It just means voters won't know which is which.

The office of state attorney general should be nonpartisan because candidates in partisan races are more likely to be determined by a party's base. A state executive branch office that works with the judicial system should be impartial. A state's attorney general is different than a chief executive or a legislator. Their job is not to legislate or sign legislation. Candidates should be chosen by overall consensus, as opposed to party nomination. Voters should read about candidates, not just vote because they have D or R next to their name.

The only elected executive statewide should be Governor (maybe with Lt. Gov. as a running mate, like with the President)
